[Clinical assessment of renal function in oedemas during pregnancy (author's transl)].

Oedemas during pregnancy make differential diagnosis imperative, since it will be necessary to determine whether they occur primarily in connection with pregnancy or are secondary to a pre-existent renal disease. In the studies presented here were examined women without known pre-existing renal disease, to determine the influence exercised on the parameters of renal function by the oedemas occurring during pregnancy. Examination was effected weekly by means of the previously described programme for risk pregnancies during the individual stages of pregnancy. No statistically significant influence on ureterorenal function was seen in these women compared with groups of controls. The results are discussed on the basis of facts available from literature.

[Radionuclide function tests after transverse and longitudinal nephrotomy in coral calculi of the kidney].

In 19 patients ING and scintigramme were compared before and 1 year after operations of coral calculi. 7 times a transversal, 12 times a longitudinal cutting was chosen. The evaluation of the isotope nephrogrammes did not show any significant differences. The pre- and postoperative scintigrammes in the chi 2-test resulted in highly significant differences in favour of the transversal nephrotomy. The present animal-experimental results can be confirmed clinically.

[Thyroglossal duct fistulae: congenital or iatrogenic? (author's transl)].

Clinical observations demonstrate that thyroglossal fistulae very often arise following surgical interventions. Fistulae especially appeared after incisions, punctures, enucleations or radiation therapy of a median cyst. These types of treatment should be avoided, the radical removal of thyroglossal abnormality being the only rational procedure. General clinical findings are reported in tabulated statements.

[Lateral cysts and fistulae: two different cervical lesions (author's transl)].

Branchial cysts and fistulae in the lateral part of the neck are believed to arise from the same remnant of the branchial arches. The two lesions, however, are distinct and separate. Clinical findings of the fistulae could be related to the branchial apparatus. In contradistinction the age of manifestation, the localisation, the history, th symptoms and the histological features of the lateral cervical cysts disagree in regard to the branchial origin. That is why various congenital hypotheses are discussed and rejected, partly because the existence of stratified squamous cells in cervical lymph nodes present recent suggestions. The lateral lesions and dental cysts, especially radicular cysts, are compared. Both kinds of cystic structures are often associated with an initial infection.

[Cardiopulmonary function after segmental resection of the lung].

By the combination of radiocardiography, ergooxytensiometry and heart probing on 22 lobectomized, cone- and segment-resected patients, respectively could be established in comparison to control groups that also after parenchyma-saving lung resection a pulmonary load parenchyma-saving lung resection a pulmonary load hypertension develops in 15 patients. The sequel of this increase of pressure and resistance in the pulmonary circulation is a functional insufficiency of the heart in 11 cases which is to objectify by reduction of the stroke volume, increase of the end-diastolic and end-systolic volume and by reduction of the contractility of the myocardium.

[Intra-articular therapy with radionuclides].

The 12-year experiences of a working team with the intraarticular radiogold therapy in persisting synovialitides of chronic rheumatic diseases and resistant irritation phases of arthroses are supplementarily described and a critical valuation is performed. Finally practical conclusions for the local joint therapy are made, taking into consideration also the experiences of other investigators.

[Estimation of 131I hippuran clearance during pregnancy (author's transl)].

Changes in 131I hippuran clearance were estimated by a non-catheter method, as well as total clearance and clearance of each kidney, in 43 women at various stages of pregnancy and in 13 non-pregnant women who were not using hormonal contraceptives. The results are demonstrated in graph form. The methods used are described in detail. The procedure for determining clearance in separate kidneys is indicated. It was found that clearance values increased up to the 35th and 36th weeks of pregnancy. The difference between the sides that were found corresponds with the previously known difference in the function of the right and left kidneys and ureters.

[Medico-legal assessment of vestibular disturbances (author's transl)].

In the medico-legal assessment of vestibular disturbances the degree of handicap in daily and occupational situations is to be considered. Therefore a five degree classification of everyday performances (physiological stimuli of daily life) involving the vestibular system and a grading of vestibular disorders based on subjective and objective symptoms have been compiled. A diagram relating intensity of vestibular disturbance with performance gives the percentage of reduction in working capacity (MdE).

[Determination of renal function during pregnancy via renal sequence scintigraphy (author's transl)].

Following a detailed description of the technique of examination and evaluation used in nuclear medicine, the article reports on first results obtained with renal sequence scintigraphy in pregnant women with normal kidneys. Attention is drawn to the diagnostic possibilities offered by this method, basing on a discussion with reference to the published literature, with particular emphasis on pregnancy and on the monitoring of risk pregnancies.

[Studies on renal function in H-gestosis using renal sequence scintigraphy and 131-J-hippurate clearance (author's transl)].

The article comments on the results of a study conducted in 23 women with H-gestosis, in 43 gravidae of the corresponding period of gestation with healthy kidneys, as well as in a control group of 13 women with healthy kidneys, in order to determine, by means of renal sequence scintigraphy and 131-J-hippurate clearance, the change in renal function caused by H-gestosis. The clearance data are shown both globally and broken down according to the individual kidneys. Typical activity-time curves of the relevant groups under examination are also demonstrated. The results show that with mild to moderate H-gestosis, the clearance equivalents are just below the values found in pregnancy without complications, the difference not being statistically significant. In the 28th-34th week of pregnancy, the elimination phase above the right renal parenchyma "regions of interest" is enhanced in a partly statistically significant manner, compared with the corresponding control group.

[Radiocardiographic assessment of the effect of digoxin on heart conduction insufficiency].

On 29 patients with heart insufficiency radiocardiographical investigations in rest and under stress were carried out before and after treatment with digoxin. Here it was shown that in existing functional insufficiency the determination of the stroke volume and of the minute volume in rest after digitalisation did not result in a remarkable change, but in obstructive insufficiency an improvement of the pump function of the heart began already under conditions of rest. Only in stress also in patients with functional insufficiency a significant increase of the heart-time volume and the stroke volume after application of glycoside was proved. An exacter information about the effect of glycoside was given by the temporary volume function particularly under stress.
