[Protective effect of selenium compounds in the freeze preservation of erythrocytes].

The influence of sodium selenite, selenomethionine and sodium selenite with tocopherols in combination on the survival of cryopreserved erythrocytes was investigated. Percent hemolysis is marked decreased after a three-hour incubation of the whole blood with addition of selenomethionine as well as sodium selenite with tocopherole in combination before cryopreservation. The protective effect is attributed to the antioxydative and membrane stabilizing effectiveness of selenium and tocopherol.

[The importance of ureaplasma urealyticum in non-specific prostato-urethritis (author's transl)].

312 patients with non-specific prostato-urethritis were investigated with a standardised procedure using the four glass test. In 42.3% of patients mycoplasma was isolated which in almost all cases was Ureaplasma urealyticum. Clinically patients were symptom-free after eradication of mycoplasma in cases where previously urea-plasma counts of more than 10,000 CFU/ml prostatic secretion and of more than 1000 CFU/ml urine had been demonstrated. In cases where there were smaller counts of Ureaplasma urealyticum and where Mycoplasma hominis had been demonstrated tetracycline therapy did not lead to cure in any case.

On the correlation between FSH, LH and prolactin serum levels.

In 188 males FSH, LH, and prolactin serum levels determined from a single blood sample were found to be closely correlated. No correlation appeared to testosterone levels. The same correlation is observed, if serum levels of FSH, LH, and prolactin are measured after stimulation with LH-RH and TRH. In order to explain the close correlation, in five young men hormone levels were measured at 2-min-intervals over a period of 2 hours. Peaks of prolactin often correspond to those of FSH and LH, and a statistical correlation was found in two cases between FSH and prolactin. Results suggest a common releasing mechanism, which is superposed to the main mediating mechanism.

[Protein concentrations in the ejaculate of patients with chronic prostatitis].

In 158 patients suffering from chronic prostatitis and 23 healthy men seminal fluid concentrations of IgG, IgA, C3c, coeruloplasmin, alpha-1-antitrypsin and alpha-1-glycoprotein were determined by immunodiffusion. Concentration of IgG is closely correlated to leucocyte counts, that of IgG, C3c, and coeruloplasmin to erythrocyte counts. C3c, coeruloplasmin, alapha-1-glycoprotein and alpha-1-antitrypsin are further correlated to sperm counts. IgG and C3c concentrations are related to pathogenetic factors. If pathogenic bacteria are found, they are significantly higher than in patients with mycoplasmas, without bacteria or normal men. The same relation is found when observing the leucocyte count. IgG is significantly lower when mycoplasmas are found.

[Clinical studies on acidosis morbidity (author's transl)].

Basing on the pH values of the umbilical artery of a total of 3,421 births in 1977 and in the first half of 1978, the acidosis morbidity associated with the various methods of delivery and dependent upon the weight at birth is determined, and compared with the Apgar score. The results are discussed with reference to literature. It is concluded from this study that electronic monitoring should be intensified, that indication for abdominal Caesarean section should be considered on a relatively liberal scale, and that the quota of underweight children should be reduced further.

[Prolaction level in the serum of patients with disorders of spermatogenesis].

In 183 out patients of our department FSH, LH, prolactin and testosterone were measured in one single serum sample. In 43 of these, measurements were done prior and 30 min after injection of LH-RH and TRH. An analysis of the ejaculate was performed in each case. If prolactin levels are grouped according to sperm count or testosterone levels, means of prolactin do not differ significantly between these groups. Some individual levels exceed the normal range. The TRN stimulated prolactin levels are lowered when related to high testosterone levels. Significantly statistical correlations do not exist. Mean FSH levels show a clear depression related to high sperm counts and high testosterone levels. A significantly statistical correlation is found between FSH, LH and prolactin levels each. Determination of prolactin in patients with fertility disturbances may be helpful to detect a hyperprolactinemia, which possibly causes inhibition of the spermatognesis.

Inhibin-like effects of interstitial testis fluid: effects on serum FSH and androgen-binding protein in epididymis.

Application of rat interstitial testis fluid (ITF) to orchidectomized rats diminishes significantly the rise of FSH in serum following castration. The effect is seen for 12-24 hours on day 3 and 50 after orchidectomy but not at 48 hours in rats treated 50 days after orchidectomy. LH levels are not significantly affected. These observations are assumed to be related to an inhibin-like activity in ITF. Therefore ITF (after extraction with ether) is given to intact animals and the testicular parameter of FSH, the androgen-binding protein (ABP), is measured by "steady-state" PAGE. Unexpectedly, ABP concentrations increase. At present, this effect cannot be explained. It is concluded that ITF contains only small amounts of inhibin and will be no good source for further studies.

[A rare form of oscillation].

Two clinical pictures of a serous fetal distress are represented. The oscillations, registrated by means of phonocardiography, showed a so far no described automatism. The corresponding CTG's are discussed.

[Delta pH F changes sub partu and their clinical relevance].

Investigations of delta pHF-changes in labor led to the opinion, that there exist no agreement between this changes and the fetal or neonatal condition. Nevertheless they represent an important criterion--together with electronic parameters--for estimation of placental function. By achievment of limiting values (delta pHF greater than or equal to 0,10) and persistent pathological fetal heart rate patterns the termination of labor is necessary. A pHF less than 7,25 should no be reached. That ist of great importance for a low acidotic morbidity.--In this connection the determination of pHF to begin of the fetal monitoring is requisite. This is meaningful for the dynamics of pHF-values in labor in accordance with the fetal monitoring.
