A series of 300 couples with reproductive failure, i.e. 100 couples with a history of 2-4 spontaneous abortions (lot 1) and 200 couples with abortions and one or several dead plurimalformed children (lot 2) were cytogenetically investigated. The incidence of major chromosomal aberrations was 7% (lot 1) and 5.5% (lot 2) and minor aberrations 13% (lot 1) and 5% (lot 2). The mean percentage of chromosmal aberrations in the 300 couples was 6.03%, a figure which is close to the one reported in the literature of the recent years, i.e.6.1%.
Two new cases of trisomy 8 mosaicism are reported. Both patients present the "evocative facial traits" of trisomy 8; large square face, everted lower lip, deep skin furrows on the palms and soles, joint rigidity and psychomotor retardation. The whole literature on trisomy 8 is reviewed.
The kinetics and dimensions of the septum and left posterior ventricular wall as well as left ventricular performance were investigated by echocardiography in 50 patients with painful ischemic heart disease. In 10 cases hypokinesia and low left ventricular performance were found, more marked in those with a history of angina pectoris and myocardial infarction. The utility of this technique for exploring myocardial contractility and its limits is discussed.

The use of labelled fibrinogen in 106 patients with thromboembolic risk led to the detection of thrombosis of deep veins of lower limbs in 25 patients (23,58%) as compared with a single patient (0,94%) who showed all the clinical signs. The thromboses were identified more frequently (in 60% of the cases) in patients whose age was above 60 years. In 80% of the cases the thromboses were detected in the first 24 h after surgery. Most frequently involved were the veins of the leg (64%), and especially in the IV-th area, corresponding to the upper third of the leg (23,80%). Surgery performed in the pelvic area gave a high percentage of thromboses. Advanced age, the existence of varicose veins, the presence of diabetes, of obesity, as well as previous surgical interventions, increase the risk of thrombosis and of embolies. Due to existing possibilities for an early diagnosis of thromboses in deep veins following surgery, for detecting latent clinical thrombosis, as well as for assessing the evolution of an already formed thrombus, it appears that the test with labelled fibrinogen is a highly useful clinical investigation.
