[A comparative immunochemical study of the subtypes of serologic type I of the agent of pseudotuberculosis].

It was shown that Y. pseudotuberculosis strains causing the Far-Eastern scarlatina-like fever in the Primorsk region belonged to subtype IB-ipopolysaccharides of the standard strain of subtype IB and of the local strain were closely affiliated by the analytic data and monosaccharide composition, but differed from the lipopolysaccharide of strains belonging to subtype IA. Living vaccines should be used to obtain the sera against the subtypes IA and IB of the causative agent.

[Interaction of the causative agent of pseudotuberculosis with the peritoneal macrophages from an immune and a nonimmune organism].

The role of phagocytosis in experimental pseudotuberculosis was demonstrated in vivo and in vitro. Virulent Y. pseudotuberculosis strain caused the death of the majority of the cells, whereas the weakly-virulent ones--degenerative changes and the death of but of few of them. The capacity of the causative agents of pseudotuberculosis to survive and to reproduce within the cells could be regarded as one of the significant factors of virulence of these microbes. The maximal immunizing effect was observed in infection of the animals with sublethal dose of the living Y. pseudotuberculosis culture. A somewhat lesser, but a sufficiently high, immunizing effect was produced by lipopolysaccharide. A method of macrophage culture can be used for the assessment of the immunogenicity of various antigenic complexes of the microbes.

[Several biological properties of the surface antigens of the agent of pseudotuberculosis].

Capsular substance and extracellular proteins of the causative agent of pseudotuberculosis caused in the organism of guinea pigs a specific immunological reconstruction with the accumulation in the blood of antibodies in low titres, chiefly of macroglobulin type. The blood sera of these animals failed to protect the mice from lethal pseudotuberculosis infection in experiments of passive protection. Surface antigens of pseudotuberculosis causative agents produced a sensitizing action on the guinea pig organism; this was shown in vitro with the macrophages of the abdominal cavity of these animals. Extracellular proteins decreased the completeness of phagocytosis by neutrophilic leukocytes (demonstrated in vitro with the donor blood leukocytes).

[The antidiphtheria and antitetanus immunities of children of the Maritime Territory after the use of adsorbed DTP vaccine and adsorbed DT-m anatoxin].

The state of collective immunity to diphtheria and tetanus in children of preschool age, depending on the kind of vaccine preparation used for immunization, was studied. The immunological potency of adsorbed DPT vaccine (i.e. its capacity of forming prolonged and stable basic immunity) was shown to be higher in comparison with the potency of adsorbed DT toxoid with reduced antigen content (DT-R). The study revealed that in all groups of children the level of antitetanus immunity was higher than the level of antidiphtheria immunity, and 3 years later its decrease was less pronounced. A stricter approach to giving medical grounds for the use of low-reactive adsorbed DT-R in the immunization of children belonging to groups of risk is recommended.

[The intensity of cell receptor catabolism in intestinal yersiniosis and pseudotuberculosis].

The intensity of the catabolism of cell receptors in yersiniosis was evaluated by the level of R-proteins in the blood sera of 95 patients. The study revealed that the degree of an increase in the level of R-protein depended on the severity and the course of the pathological process was the same in both nosological forms of the disease. The high and stable level of R-proteins was indicative of the possibility of the prolonged and relapsing course of yersiniosis.

[Diphtheria in the Maritime Territory].

The results of the analysis of the present epidemiological situation in diphtheria in the Maritime Territory are presented. The data on absolute and intensive characteristics, death rate due to this infection, the vaccination status of diphtheria patients, as well as the results of the study of the level and intensity of antidiphtheria immunity in the healthy population of the territory. The study revealed that the defects of collective antidiphtheria immunity correlated with morbidity rate among adults and children. Adults aged 40-50 years and children aged 6-7 years were regarded as risk groups; among them the highest proportion of nonimmune persons and the highest diphtheria morbidity rate were registered. Stabilization achieved by the present moment was the result of the mass immunization of the adult population, ensuring the necessary coverage (92%) of vaccination in 1995.
