We measured the quantity of IgG bound to platelets (IgGP) by the antiglobulin consumption test (Dixon technic). In controls, the IgG level did not exceed 10 X 10(-15) g for one platelet. The amount of IgGP was often incraeased (more than 10 X 10(-l5) g) in some autoimmune diseases as lupus erythematosus, chronic lymphocytic leukemia and chronic active hepatitis. Among 26 patients presenting an idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) with a low number of platelets, 21 (77%) had a high titer of IgGP. In 6 ITP in remission, the IgGP titer was normal. After a review of the different technics detecting the IgG bound to platelets, we explain why we choose the antiglobulin consumption. This test is excellent for the research of anti-platelets auto-antibodies in ITP. Yet, the reaction remains negative in a minority of ITP. Several explanations are possible: low quantity of IgGP, presence of other anto-antibodies as IgM or IgA, cellular auto-immunity anti-platelets without antibodies, non immunologic ITP.
A retrospective study of 65 patients with Hodgkin's disease (clinical stage I: 11 cases; stage II: 54 cases) included an analysis of the causes of therapy failure. Twenty-five of the 65 patients had been treated by regional irradiation (thoracic mantle or inverted Y field) restricted to only one side of the diaphragm; 27 patients had received the same irradiation followed by chemotherapy (MOPP). The subjects were irradiated on both sides of the diaphragm; 3 of these had received the same radiotherapy followed by chemotherapy (MOPP). Relapses in the irradiated fields were rare. Relapses in the areas bordering the irradiated fields were definitely the result of faulty delivery. Better evaluation of the precise extent of the disease, particularly by laparotomy, would lead to improved initial treatment (radio- or chemotherapy). The availability of improved irradiation techniques and a better choice of indications, particularly concerning the timing for chemotherapy, should result in maximal reduction of therapeutic failures in the early stages of Hodgkin's disease.

Report of a syndrome constituted from sensorineural deaf mutism, lymphoedema of lower limbs with early onset and haematological anomalies (aucte myeloblastic leukaemia, cytopenia) in four individuals (three boys and two girls from two generations). This observation suggest autosomal dominant transmission, however recessive transmission cannot be formelly excluded.

A girl presented with a malignant reticulosis in the early months of life. For 4 years she was treated with repeated courses of irradiation and chemotherapy, mostly cyclophosphamide. After 6 years of complete remission she developed a rapidly progressive B cell lymphoma. The contribution of the various forms of treatment to the development of the second malignancy are discussed.
Case report of a 4-year-old girl in whom a unilateral ocular localization appeared after 1 1/2 year of maintained remission of acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The evolution of this localization can be divided in three phases: 1. During the first 17 months, an apparent simple relapsing conjunctivitis of the left eye. 2. During the following 5 months, repeated episodes of the left iritis with mydriasis and discolouration of the iris. 3. Finally, left uveitis involving the anterior chamber, with hypopion, hyphaema and glaucoma; the clinical presentation at this stage was suggestive of ocular lymphoblastosis. Radiotherapy to the lesion (total dose, 1 200 rads) was quickly followed by resolution without sequelae. No relapse was observed during the following 30 months, till death. The ocular disease remained the only manifestation of leukaemia during its evolution. A haematological relapse occurred 11 months after cure of the iritis, followed 1 year later by a second, treatment-sensitive relapse, and finally by a third, fatal relapse. The patient survived 5 years 9 months.

The clinical and bacteriological response of 38 treatments performed on 24 children (11 of them neonates) carrying out separate treatments with carbenicillin (2 treatments), gentamicin [4], fosfomycin [6], and associated treatments with gentamicin plus carbenicillin [6], fosfomycin plus gentamicin [18] and fosfomycin plus carbenicillin [2] are considered. The clinical cure was obtained in 21 children (87.5%). The most effective treatment was fosfomycin plus gentamicin; both antibiotics showed synergism in vitro on isolated Serratia strains. A dosage of 75 mg/kg fosfomycin enables serum levels of about 32 mug/ml during 4-5 h, being this level higher to the MIC of all isolated strains of S. marcescens.

Idiopathic hematuria is a clinical condition of unknown etiology; it is defined as persistent or recurrent, macro or microscopic hematuria in the absence of systemic or local disease and with normal renal function. Six patients who had these criterions were studied. There were all girls. The age of the first episode was between one and four years. There was no other family or personal history of renal disease or deafness. Only two patients had their episodes of macroscopic hematuria within flu-like illness or exercise. All had normal renal function and no proteinuria was found. Serum C'3 and C'4 were normal. Microscopic and immunofluorescence studies were negative. We remark the convenience of a triple criteria clinical, histopathologic and evolutive to select a patient into the "idiopathic hematuria" group. We comment the usefullness of renal biopsy in the investigation of unexplained hematuria.
