A method is described, based on mordantiation with phosphotungstic acid and tannic acid plus impregnation with silver nitrate solution (pH 10.4) and a physical developing technique. Water glass is used as a protective colloid in the developer.

With hydrochloric acid-alcoholic solution of alcian green, without any pretreatment both the sulfated and the carboxylated mucopolysaccharides (acid glycosaminoglycans) can be demonstrated. After an indirect sulfation (periodic acid-bisulfite pretreatment), the glycogen and the mucoproteins, and after an oxydation with acidified potassium permanganate, the high cystine-containing proteins can also be stained. As a counterstain, a picric acid-Sirius red solution has proved good.
The author describes a modification of the cytologic trichrome stain proposed originally for staining of connective tissue which is, owing to its low alcohol demand , essentially cheaper than the method of Papanicolaou. With this new procedure he could achieve the same colour effects as with Papanicolaou's stain.
A selective elastic tissue stain is described. It is based on a hydrochloric acid alcoholic resorcin fuchsin solution with addition of potassium permanganate and formalin. After preoxidation with potassium permanganate, the mixture diluted with water stains also the beta cells of the islets of Langerhans, the neurosecretory materials, and the HBsAg.
