Infarction of renal tumors using isobutyl-2 cyanoacrylate and lipiodol.

Percutaneous transcatheter embolization of the renal artery in clear cell carcinoma was performed in nine patients. The occlusive material used was a suspension of 1 ml of isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate in 3 ml of Lipiodol. Six patients were operated on 2-5 days after the embolization, and in three patients the procedure was palliative. In one of the latter, follow-up arteriography 4 months later showed that the artery was still occluded. There were no complications attributed to the glue or to oil emboli in this series.

Histoacryl in sutureless uretero-ureteral anastomosis: an experimental study.

Uretero-ureteral anastomosis can be compromised by tissue reaction to the suture material, extravasation of urine, and periureteral inflammatory reaction at the anastomotic site, resulting in structures. A sutureless, urine-tight anastomosis, therefore, would be the ideal solution, n-butyl 2-cyanoacrylate was used in the sutureless uretero-ureteral anastomosis in 10 dogs and resulted in a good anastomosis with no untoward reactions.

Ovarian pregnancy and IUD.

Two cases of ovarian pregnancy associated with an IUD in situ are described. One of the cases documents the first reported case of ovarian pregnancy coexisting with a Copper-T device; thus the range of types of IUDs combined with ovarian pregnancy is further extended. The consciousness of the physician of the coexistence, in combination with the wide use of updated diagnostic means, especially estimations of low values of HCG and laparoscopy, should ensure early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancies, including ovarian ones.

Papillary cystadenofibroma of the endometrium.

Six cases of papillary cystadenofibroma of the endometrium were found in he medical literature. A seventh case of this kind of tumor is now described clinico-pathologically and the literature pertinent to this particular type of tumor reviewed.

Acute induction of joint inflammation in the rat by poly I . poly C.

Intraarticular injection of interferon inducer, double-stranded polyinosinate-polycytidylate (Poly I . C) caused acute synovitis in rats. This acute inflammatory response was accompanied by an increased concentration of prostaglandin E (PGE) in the synovial tissue. Double-stranded polyadenylate-polyuridylate (Poly A . Poly U) was less potent than Poly I . Poly C in inducing synovitis and increasing PGE concentration, while single-stranded polyinosinate (Poly I) or polycytidylate (Poly C) were inactive in these respects. Intraarticular injection of partially purified mouse fibroblast interferon also induced synovial inflammation. The present results suggest that interferon may be a mediator of viral inflammatory responses.

Mycobacterium abscessus (M. chelonei) infection of the knee joint: report of two cases following intra-articular injection of corticosteroids.

In 2 patients (3 knees) acute infectious arthritis of the knee developed following intra-articular injection of corticosteroids. The pathogenic organism responsible for the infection was found to be Mycobacterium Abscessus (M. Chelonei). Diagnostic difficulties were encountered due to the rarity of such infections and elusive identification of the organism with routine laboratory procedures. Therapeutic approaches necessitated combined radical surgical procedures together with antituberculosis drugs. Surgical treatment also afforded correct and definitive identification of the organism, from material obtained at operation. Although these mycobacteriae were found to be resistent to antituberculosis drugs, these same drugs proved effective clinically.
