[Clinical studies on combination chemotherapy with fosfomycin and dibekacin in complicated urinary tract infection].

Clinical studies were performed on combination chemotherapy with Fosfomycin and Dibekacin. Sixteen patients with complicated urinary tract infections were treated with a combination of Fosfomycin (4 g/day, d.i.v.) and Dibekacin (200 mg/day, i.m.) for 5 days; and, 15 of them were clinically evaluated by criteria of UTI committee. The clinical effects proved excellent in 3 patients, good in 8 patients, and poor in 4 patients overall effective rate was 73.3%. Out of 19 strains isolated from the patients, 12 strains disappeared after the therapy. No side effect was observed in 16 cases. Clinical use of the combination chemotherapy with Fosfomycin and Dibekacin was thought to be effective and safe for patients with complicated urinary tract infections, because the combination acts not only synergistically, but also because Fosfomycin acts to protect against the nephrotoxicity induced by Dibekacin.

Phencyclidine-induced decrease of methionine-enkephalin levels in mouse brain.

The effects of acute administration of phencyclidine (PCP) on the steady state levels of methionine-enkephalin in discrete brain areas were investigated in mice. The methionine-enkephalin levels in the medulla oblongata-pons and the midbrain were decreased by the administration of PCP. However, PCP induced no change of the methionine-enkephalin levels in other brain areas at the dose range of 5-20 mg/kg. These results suggest that the pharmacological effects of PCP may involve changes in enkephalinergic neuronal activity.

A battery powered operating table with a removable stationary column base and a detachable table top.

AC and DC powered operating tables were investigated from the viewpoint of safety and the following results were obtained: 1) With the increase in supply voltage, leakage from cables increased prominently. Only a low leakage cable showed a low leakage value. 2) AC powered operating tables showed a high leakage current, especially when in remote control. 3) A battery powered operating table with freely removable driving base and detachable table top function, which we developed, proved to have a satisfactory durability for actual clinical use and an extremely low level leakage of electricity (0.1-0.3 micro A). Moreover, our design incorporates every merit guaranteed by the usual operating table.

Determination of methionine-enkephalin, norepinephrine, dopamine, 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (HVA) in brain by high-pressure liquid chromatography with electrochemical detector.

High-pressure liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection is utilized in a procedure for the determination of methionine-enkephalin (MET-ENK), norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), 3, 4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid (DOPAC) and 3-methoxy-4-hydroxyphenylacetic acid (HVA) in same brain tissue samples. The high degree of selectivity and sensitivity (picomole limits for each component) makes this technique directly applicable to extremely small samples. After optimal conditions had been established, the procedure was employed in the determination of MET-ENK, NE, DA, DOPAC and HVA contents in whole brains, 7 discrete brain areas of mice and rats.
