[Outline of general shock theory].

Being directly, extremely dangerously affected, the organism of man (and laboratory animals) automatically starts showing an ancient hypobiotic protective reaction in the form of unique torpid syndrome. However, hypobiotic conditions are evolutionarily alien to the superior brain formations. A functional conflict arises between the new and old regulatory systems. Increasing pathology of regulation forms the whole typical stereotypical shock syndrome with its dangerous pathological components and phase course. However, shock maintains the organism's vitality and saves it from immediate death after the damaging effect of the initial collapse. The results depend on the adequacy of anti-shock therapy, the degree of organism's biological reserve preservation and severity of organ deficiency.

[Effects of naloxone, nalorphine and dalargin on the course of shock due to the combination of mechanical trauma and acute blood loss].

Acute experiments on 75 adult rabbits were made to study action of intravenous injections of naloxone (0.1 mg/kg), nalorphine (0.5 and 2.0 mg/kg) and dalargin (0.1 mg/kg) in early and late periods of irreversible shock caused by combination of non-shockogenic mechanical trauma of the hip and safe blood loss from the femoral artery. In early shock antagonists of opiate receptors did not influence the outcomes while injection of dalargin prolonged survival of the animals noticeably. In late shock injection of the drugs had no significant influence on the course of the pathological process while reinfusion did not help the animals to survive. In the late shock injection of the above drugs after blood reinfusion increased the rabbits' survival.

[The possibility of developing shock in craniocerebral trauma].

It was established in acute experiments on dogs and rabbits that craniocerebral trauma does not lead to the development of torpid shock. In combination of craniocerebral trauma with severe mechanical injury to the thigh or acute massive extracranial blood loss a typical torpid shock develops with death of the animals in the immediate hours. Infusion therapy relieves shock but fails to prevent the development of brain edema. Intravenous injections of procaine hydrochloride have a positive effect in craniocerebral trauma and shock. It is concluded that craniocerebral trauma does not disturb the mechanisms of shock formation and the process takes a course independently of the process of brain edema development.

[The mechanism of action of opiate antagonists in experimental traumatic shock].

Acute experiments on 86 adult rabbits have shown that in the early period of Cannon's traumatic shock nalophine and naloxone relieve torpidity, restore motor activity and responses to standard stimuli. This prolongs the animal life (nalorphine) and increases the survivability (naloxone). However in some rabbits a premature relief of torpidity (0.5 mg/kg of nalorphine) precipitates the animal death. It is concluded that in the late period the drugs exert no effect on the shock outcome and that inactivation of opioid suppression system can either trigger the mechanism of shock withdrawal or promote a reduction of its severity.

[The efficacy of hyperbaric oxygenation in experimental and hemorrhagic shock].

The efficacy of hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO, 2 atm, 1 h, altitude chamber "Irtysh-MT") has been studied in acute experiments on 56 adult dogs with hemorrhagic and traumatic shock. It has been established that HBO has a marked therapeutic effect in hemorrhagic shock, especially in its early period, when almost all the animals are saved from death. In the late period of hemorrhagic shock and in the early period of traumatic shock HBO effect was manifested only in insignificant increase in the animals' survival and lifespan. In the late period of traumatic shock toxic effect of hyperbaric O2 application was observed and the majority of animals died before the end of HBO session.

[Multifunctional recorder with ultraviolet-sensitive paper].

The first domestic recorder with UV-sensitive, directly developed paper is described. It records both slow and fast physiological processes in eight operating modes, and meets the requirements of medical theory and practice.
