Alport's syndrome--a case report.

Alport's syndrome (hereditary nephritis with deafness), is an uncommon disease and is seen very infrequently in India. We report a fatal case in a young girl with characteristic ultrastructural changes in the kidney thus emphasising the exception noted in the observation that females have a better prognosis compared to males.

Application of the AgNOR method to distinguish pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia from squamous cell carcinoma.

The AgNOR stain was performed on seventeen cases of pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia of the oral cavity and genital tract, seventeen cases of squamous cell carcinomas of the same regions, and nineteen cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix, to determine whether the stain could help to distinguish pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia from squamous cell carcinoma. No constant relationship of the AgNOR score to the grade of the lesion could be determined. Follow up of some of the cases was possible. Here, too, it was seen that the AgNOR score could not reliably predict which cases of pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia would progress to squamous cell carcinoma, and which cases of squamous cell carcinoma would suffer a relapse.

Primary actinomycosis of the breast: a clinical review and a case report.

An uncommon situation of primary actinomycosis of the breast is reported in a 40-year-old woman who presented with a lump, clinically simulating malignancy, in the right breast. Diagnosis of actinomycosis was established by incision biopsy. Resolution of infection, while conserving the breast, was achieved by timely diagnosis, limited surgery, and effective antibiotic therapy. Diagnostic failures leading to avoidable mastectomies have not been uncommon in cases previously reported in the literature. It is, therefore, imperative that this condition be considered in the differential diagnosis of intractable breast abscess and malignancy.

Multiple trichoepitheliomas with rare features.

A case of multiple trichoepitheliomas associated with epidermal cysts is reported. The trichoepithelioma lesions were florid and extensive with large nodulo-cystic lesions on the face and a new variant simulating hidradenitis suppurativa near the gluteal cleft.

Case report: calcification within aneurysmal bone cyst.

Aneurysmal bone cyst (ABC) usually affects older children or young adults. The radiological appearance is of a purely osteolytic expansile metaphyseal lesion with thinned out cortex and internal septations. We present a case of ABC in a 5-year-old girl which showed internal calcification and was initially diagnosed as enchondroma. However, pathological examination revealed typical appearance of ABC with large area of dystrophic calcification.

A rare association of localized gigantism with tuberous sclerosis.

An unusual association of localized gigantism with hypertrophy of the long bones and soft tissues in the left lower limb in an 18-year-old male with tuberous sclerosis (TS) is reported. The significance of this association is discussed from the point of view of its common neural crest origin during embryogenesis.
