[Effects of reflexotherapy and drugs on the secretory function of the stomach in children with chronic gastroduodenitis].

In 156 children suffering from chronic gastroduodenitis, secretory gastric function was found to be impaired in the stage of exacerbation. Comparative assessment of different methods of that impairment correction revealed antacid therapy to be of the highest efficacy. Meanwhile reflexotherapy turned out the most effective approach during antirelapse treatment.

[Comparative analysis of the clinical effectiveness of reflexotherapy and psychopharmacotherapy in the treatment of neurotic disorders in dermatology patients].

Comparative studies on the efficacy of a multiple-modality treatment of patients with chronic dermatoses (atopic dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis), including reflexotherapy (RT) and drug psychotherapy (DPT), have shown high clinical efficacy of RT in cases with hysterical and moderately expressed anxiety-depressive disorders and of DPT in pronounced depressive hypochondriac disturbances. Unlike DPT, RT has not been associated with side effects. Clinical results have been confirmed by the data of comprehensive clinical and psychological examinations of the patients in the course of treatment.

[Functional changes of myocardial contraction and relaxation in hypertension patients as affected by reflexotherapy].

49 patients with initial stages of essential hypertension (EH) were investigated using phase systole analysis and echocardiography during acupuncture (reflexotherapy) treatment. It was established that even at the initial stages of EH increasing of myocardial mass and the disturbances of contractile and diastolic activity of myocardium take place. As a result of acupuncture a stable hypotensive effect, improvement or normalization of contractile function and diastolic values, a decrease of energy loss, reversal of myocardial hypertrophy were achieved. It is the decrease of sympathetic influences on the circulation system that plays an important part in the onset of these positive changes.

[Laser reflexotherapy in the combined treatment of neurogenic bladder dysfunction in children with caudal regression syndrome].

The authors propose to introduce low-energy laser reflexotherapy to the complex of rehabilitative therapy for children with neurogenic dysfunction of the urinary bladder. The laser causes no pain, which enables the procedure to be used in infants, eliminates unretarded contractions of a detrusor rather effectively. A continuous reproduction of this therapeutic complex can be achieved by a relatively long-term stabilization of urination in a third of the children.

[The results of endaural reflexotherapy in patients with vestibulocochlear dysfunction].

On the basis of the clinico-neurophysiological evaluation of 120 patients with cochleovestibular dysfunctions a mode of endaural reflexotherapy of the above pathology has been developed. The new treatment modality compares favourably with the existing ones in terms of degree of modulation of cochleovestibular function as well as hemodynamics and brain metabolism.

[Neurophysiologic changes during the treatment of endogenous depression by reflexotherapy].

Superficial EEG and visual evoked potentials (EP) were studied in 28 patients with endogenous depression treated with reflexotherapy in order to study the neurophysiological correlates of its therapeutic action. A stepwise development of reflexotherapeutic effect was determined. The first stage is that of unspecific activation EEG and EP changes correlating with activating and stimulating clinical effects. At the 2nd stage clinical improvement with proportional reduction of all the components of depressive syndrome run parallel to the normalization of neurophysiological indices.

[Change in central hemodynamics and systolic phase structure as affected by reflexotherapy in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia].

Myocardial contractility was examined, using echo- and polycardiography, in patients with neurocirculatory dystonia. An increase was demonstrated in the duration of the phase of isometric tension, mechanical systole and cardiac index in the presence of raised peripheral resistance as well as increased energy spending and enhanced left-ventricular contraction. Auriculo-paravertebral method of reflexotherapy was applied, and the changed parameters returned to normal.

[Use of graded bicycle ergometry as a method for the objective evaluation of the efficacy of reflexotherapy in the early stages of hypertension].

Graded bicycle ergometry was used to evaluate the efficacy of pathogenetic auriculo-paravertebral reflexotherapy (RT) in 24 patients with stages IB and IIA of essential hypertension (EH). After RT was completed the subjective symptomatology, central hemodynamics, and heart work improved. The increment of the minute volume of the circulation in response to graded exercise decreased, especially in patients with stage IB of EH. These patients also showed a reduction in the heart rate. The total peripheral vascular resistance dropped both at rest and after exercise. After RT the patients with stages IB and IIA of EH manifested a decrease in the loading heart index and intensity of the functioning of the structures, with that decrease being more demonstrable in patients with stage IIA EH, which attested to the lowering of heart muscle oxygen consumption. The decreased intensity of the functioning of the structures in patients with stage IB EH points to the diminution of myocardial hyperfunction marking the hyperkinetic circulatory pattern in these patients.

[Effect of reflexotherapy on central and peripheral hemodynamics in patients with the radicular syndrome of lumbar osteochondritis].

The central and peripheral hemodynamics was examined in patients with the radicular syndrome of lumbar osteochondrosis who were treated by reflexotherapy methods. In addition to the direct favourable effect of microacupuncture and classical acupuncture on the circulatory system a longer duration of the positive effect of microacupuncture was revealed. An interconnection between the favourable changes of the patient's state and the improvement of the systemic and local circulation was noted.

[Electromyographic characteristics of the effectiveness of puncture reflexotherapy in vertebral osteochondrosis with neurologic syndromes].

Results of an analysis of myoelectrogenesis changes that occurred in the course of treating 240 patients with neurological syndromes of vertebral osteochondrosis are presented. The patients were given acupuncture and electro-ionic (microiontophoresis of medicinal substances into the acupuncture sites) reflexotherapy. The efficacy of these methods in the treatment of the reflectory and compression syndromes is analyzed, and so is the informative value of total electromyography in estimating the effectiveness of the treatment being given.

[Change in the structure of night sleep in agrypnic syndrome patients under the influence of reflexotherapy].

A total of 15 patients with sleep disorders were treated by reflexotherapy. These disorders were of the agrypnic type (insomnia), had a polymorphic character and were due to the psychogenic factors (neurosis). Acupunctures were performed with the use of 3 levels of action of acupuncture points (according to the Tabeev method). Under the impact of treatment and in the presence of neurotic symptomatology regress there was a distinct subjective and objective improvement of the night sleep, which was confirmed by polygraphic recording.

Variables of stimulation and placebo in acupuncture reflexotherapy.

Placebo can be defined as "the idea of recovery." It represents the natural impulse toward recovery that is catalyzed by treatment or even simply by the idea of treatment. Therefore, placebo is not an "active" treatment; it is used in scientific research to discriminate between the actual effect of a drug or therapeutic technique and the result of chance or the will to recover. Even though it is only an idea, placebo can cause improvement and recovery in approximately 30% of the subjects treated with any therapeutic program and for very different pathologies. Acute pathologies are more sensitive to placebo than chronic ones; functional disorders respond better than organic alterations, and so on. The main controversial issues in the methodology of acupuncture research are: placebo, double-blinding, and the intensity of stimulation of needles. The most used placebo method is sham acupuncture, which is the insertion of the needles outside acupuncture points. It is argued that this methodologically incorrect choice leads to studying the importance of the acupuncture point, rather than that of acupuncture as a transdermic stimulation technique.

[The use of reflexotherapy in the initial forms of cerebrovascular insufficiency in persons who suffered as a consequence of the accident at the Chernobyl Atomic Electric Power Station].

A comprehensive evaluation has been done in 120 patients presenting with primary forms of cerebrovascular insufficiency (PFCVI), who had become victims of Chernobyl accident. PFCVI diagnosis was made on the basis of findings from the clinical investigation, rheoencephalography, electroencephalography, echoencephalography, iridodiagnosis, electropuncture diagnosis as recommended by Nakatani, variation pulsometry, study into the vegetative nervous system. Functional inadequacies were disclosed in the bodily regulatory-adaptive system, specifically, the system of regulation of cerebral circulation. Cerebral symptoms in PFCVI are a reflection, first of all, of the brain nonspecific systems dysfunction. All this was taken into account in working out schemes of treatment for the above-named category of patients, incorporating lasero- and acupuncture. Exposure to the treatments described resulted in a noticeable improvement in 78% of the patients, and improvement in the rest of the series. High efficiency of the proposed approach to the treatment of PFCVI patients having become victims of Chernobyl accident suggests its pathogenetic significance.

[Interdisciplinary physio-reflexotherapy in the treatment of headache].

To treat the patients with a headache (HA) and with the signs of muscular-articular disorders in a cranio-cervical region a complex physioreflexotherapeutic approach was applied. It was directed to the relaxation of pericranial muscles, to the restoration of a physiologic mobility in a zone of cranio-cervical transition and to the action to the irritative zones of these regions. 60 patients with a headache of tension (HAT) and 48 ones with migraine (M) were treated. A therapy included laser and manual physioreflexotherapy and an education to the muscular autorelaxation technique. An estimation after 6 months of therapy gave good and excellent results in 61% of the patients with HAT and in 37% of the patients with M. A number of the days with HA, a duration and an intensity of the attacks decreased. A conclusion was made that the disorders of craniocervical structures may make worse a course of HA. In such cases there was indicated a described therapeutic approach.
