[Study on mechanical properties of titanius alloy samples fabricated with vacuum-sintered powder metallurgy].

OBJECTIVE: To investigate mechanical properties of titanium alloy samples with vacuum-sintered powder metallurgy. METHODS: Titanium based metal powder mixtures were compacted into green bodies in the double action press and sintered at 1000 degrees centigrade for 15 minutes in a vacuum furnace at 0.025Pa. Then the mechanical properities of the sintered compacts were evaluated. RESULTS: Compressive strength of sintered bodies were 111-921MPa when compacted pressure increased from 100MPa to 300MPa. Compressive strength of sintered bodies increased with compacted pressure. Three particle sizes of titanium powder, -160 mesh, -200/+300 mesh, -300 mesh, did not affect the mechanical properties of sintered bodies. The compressive strength of sintered bodies with the plating of copper and tin were higher than those without the plating. Three-point bending strength and elastic modulus of sintered bodies were respectively 102-182MPa and 12193-26630 when compacted pressure affect the mechanical properties pf sintered compacts. Titanium powder plated with copper and tin is compacted and sintered easily, the mechanical properties of sintered compacts are greatly improved.

English Abstract↗

The metallurgy of Ni-Cr alloys for fixed prosthodontics.

Ni-Cr alloys continue to be an important part of dental restorative materials. It behooves those interested to study these alloys and develop an understanding of their chemical and physical characteristics. Introduction of new alloys almost monthly presents an educational challenge to the entire profession. Many dental schools do not use Ni-Cr alloys for fixed prosthodontics because questions exist about the efficacy and performance of such alloys. These doubts may be resolved by continued research. Concern about mechanical properties can be alleviated if an understanding of the requirements for successful use, for example, casting, burnishing, polishing, and stresses encountered in service, is achieved. Information on the nature of corrosion intraorally is needed, particularly with regard to correlating in vitro testing with in vivo performance. Further studies of porcelain-alloy compatibility are indicated to understand properties affecting compatibility. Performance of high-temperature porcelain-alloy systems could influence processing techniques so that specific materials could be used more appropriately. In addition, the nature of porcelain-to-alloy bonding may be revealed by use of advanced chemical analysis techniques to identify processes occurring at the atomic level, with identification of oxides and reacted zone produces may also provide data for design of new alloys for porcelain-metal systems. Finally, factors related to the clinical performance of nickel-based alloys, including their allergenic potential, have not been considered in this report.

[Manual labor and Dupuytren disease. The results of a computerized survey in the field of iron metallurgy].

A survey was made among ironworkers to determine if manual work had a special influence on the onset of Dupuytren's disease. In 5,206 workmen examined, 196 were affected, and a careful study of their working conditions showed a definite correlation between hard manual work over many years and the occurrence of Dupuytren's disease, especially in the younger age group. We observed that familial arterial hypertension is a contributory factor. Although Dupuytren's disease cannot be considered as an occupational disease, its development, is favored by hard manual work for at least 10 years. The initiating role of trauma, especially a fracture of the wrist, is confirmed.
