Integrated photoelectrocatalytic reduction and oxidation processes to achieve efficient degradation of fluoxetine in pharmaceutical wastewater.

Fluorinated organic compounds have been frequently detected in aquatic environments, with the widespread use of fluorinated drugs. The existing processes of urban sewage treatment plants are difficult to completely remove these pollutants containing the persistent C-F bonds. In this work, an integrated system of UV-activated sulfite and UV-assisted electrochemical oxidation was innovatively constructed for efficient degradation of fluoxetine. For the UV-activated sulfite unit system, when the sulfite dosage was 0.5 mmol/L and the initial pH was about 10, the defluorination efficiency of 5 mg/L fluoxetine wastewater under nitrogen atmosphere was about 98 %. Subsequently, the UV-assisted electrochemical oxidation unit system was employed to treat the reduced wastewater mentioned above. When the sodium chloride dosage was 25 mmol/L, the initial pH was about 5, and the current density was 30 mA/cm2, the total organic carbon (TOC) removal of the wastewater arrived at 65 %. Active species capture experiments and ESR tests confirmed that hydrated electrons, hydroxyl, and chlorine radicals were the main components for the efficient degradation of fluoxetine. According to the analysis of Fukui function and HPLC-MS, the degradation pathway of pollutants was proposed including defluorination and mineralization. Meanwhile, the toxicity of intermediates was predicted using the ECOSAR program. In addition, the verification test of actual wastewater treatment indicated that the defluorination and TOC removal efficiency of fluorouracil by the integrated system were similar to those for fluoxetine. This work provided a new approach for the efficient degradation of fluorinated organic pollutants in pharmaceutical wastewater.

Effects of exercise on muscle strength and characteristics in rheumatic diseases and sarcopenia: Protocol for the Care for Muscle (C4M) Study.

OBJECTIVE: Muscle weakness is prevalent in rheumatoid arthritis (RA), osteoarthritis (OA) and sarcopenia (SARC). Endurance exercises may improve mitochondrial function and oxidative capacity, while strength exercises are thought to stimulate myofibrillar protein synthesis. This study aims to compare the effects of strength and endurance exercise and explore the association between muscle characteristics and exercise outcomes in patients with RA, OA and SARC. We hypothesize that responses to endurance and strength exercises in patients with muscle weakness are influenced by intramuscular pathology including muscle morphology, mitochondrial function, and systemic inflammation, based on their disease pathology, potentially requiring personalized training schedules. METHODS: This two-arm, parallel-group exploratory trial will enroll 69 patients (23 RA, 23 OA, 23 SARC), randomized to endurance (n = 35) or muscle strength exercises (n = 34), using minimization to balance disease type and gender. The 8-week intervention includes two supervised sessions per week using a controlled cable pulley device (Reforter™) and fitness equipment, plus one weekly home-based session. The primary outcome is isokinetic muscle strength (peak torque), measured with the Biodex system®. Secondary outcomes include muscle morphology, mitochondrial function, systemic inflammation and muscle endurance (by Biodex and 6 Minute Walk test). Muscle morphology will be assessed via 3D ultrasound imaging of the vastus lateralis. Mitochondrial function will be analyzed using high-resolution respirometry on muscle biopsies. Systemic inflammation will be measured using multiplex assays or ELISA on serum samples. DISCUSSION: This study will explore differential responses to muscle endurance and muscle strength exercises in patients with RA, OA, and SARC, offering novel insights into the molecular mechanisms of muscle weakness. The findings may help identify potential mechanisms underlying variability in exercise response and provide effect size estimates to guide future confirmatory studies and more targeted exercise interventions. Six weeks of isometric resistance training led to evidence of corticospinal but not reticulospinal adaptation in previously untrained adult males.

The latest hypothesis regarding the source of enhanced neural activation from resistance training is the reticulospinal rather than the corticospinal tract, based on invasive animal and emerging human data. The present study employed a six-week isometric resistance training intervention in a randomized controlled design to address this knowledge gap. Thirty-nine healthy, untrained males (age ~23 y, sustained contraction group n = 13, explosive contraction group n = 9, control group n = 17) underwent neuromuscular and electrophysiological testing and completed all study requirements. Maximal isometric torque (MVC) and rate of torque development (RTD) were measured during a familiarization session as well as before and after the six-week period. Transcranial magnetic stimulation was used to assess motor-evoked potential (MEP) area and silent period duration while subjects contracted to 10% of MVC. Loud sound (120&#xa0;dB) was used to modulate MEP area and reaction time to visual stimuli during the StartReact test. Only the intervention groups demonstrated significant improvements in MVC (27%) and RTD (60%) (both P < 0.01), along with reduced MEP area (-&#xa0;21%) and silent period duration (-&#xa0;23%) (both P < 0.01). The sustained contraction group showed reduced modulation of reaction time and increased MEP suppression due to loud sound. Short-term resistance training seemed to reduce cortical inhibition and corticospinal excitability in both training groups. The study showed conflicting changes in measures purported to evaluate reticulospinal functioning. It is recommended to examine different forms of resistance training and longer training exposure in future.

Cost-Effectiveness and the Economics of Genomic Testing and Molecularly Matched Therapies.

Cost-effectiveness analysis of precision oncology can help guide value-driven care. Next-generation sequencing is increasingly cost-efficient over single gene testing because diagnostic algorithms require multiple individual gene tests to determine biomarker status. Matched targeted therapy is often not cost-effective due to the high cost associated with drug treatment. However, genomic profiling can promote cost-effective care by identifying patients who are unlikely to benefit from therapy. Additional applications of genomic profiling such as universal testing for hereditary cancer syndromes and germline testing in patients with cancer may represent cost-effective approaches compared with traditional history-based diagnostic methods.

Management of neonates born to mothers with reactive serologic tests for syphilis.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The dramatic resurgence of maternal and congenital syphilis in the United States highlights the need for their optimal management as syphilis in pregnancy can result in substantial neonatal morbidity and mortality. This review summarizes current epidemiology and discusses guidance on the management of neonates born to mothers with reactive serologic tests for syphilis. RECENT FINDINGS: Timely communication with local health department professionals is essential for optimal management of mothers with reactive serologic tests for syphilis and their neonates. Knowledge of maternal syphilis treatment history by partnering with local jurisdictions can circumvent much of the incertitude surrounding neonatal management. All neonates born to mothers with reactive serologic tests for syphilis should be tested using a nontreponemal ('lipoidal antigen') test. However, a reactive test may only indicate maternal nontreponemal IgG antibodies that are transferred transplacentally to the fetus. Therefore, neonatal management depends on maternal history and treatment for syphilis as well as clinical, laboratory, and radiographic findings in the neonatal evaluation. Existing management algorithms are complex, highlighting the need for a more practical, yet safe, approach. SUMMARY: A neonatal management guideline is proposed that may simplify the management of neonates born to mothers with reactive serologic tests for syphilis while advocating for expanded use of single-dose benzathine penicillin G therapy.

Brief Report: Beyond Testing: Exploring the Psychosocial Impact of HIV Self-Testing Among Ugandan Gender-Diverse Sex Workers.

BACKGROUND: The psychosocial effect of HIV self-testing (HIVST) on sex workers' self-esteem, depression, alcohol misuse, perceived sex work stigma, and empowerment remains poorly characterized. We hypothesized that HIVST would reduce sex work stigma and improve these psychosocial outcomes by enabling private, autonomous testing and reducing exposure to stigmatizing healthcare encounters. SETTING: Kampala, Uganda. METHODS: We conducted a secondary analysis of the Empower study (NCT03426670), an open-label randomized trial in which 117 cisgender female, transgender female, and cisgender male sex workers were assigned 1:1 to monthly HIVST plus quarterly clinic-based testing, or to quarterly clinic-based testing alone, and followed for 12 months. Self-esteem (Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale), depressive symptoms (PHQ-2), alcohol misuse (RAPS4), perceived sex work stigma (adapted Female Sex Worker Stigma Scale), and empowerment were assessed quarterly. Mixed-effects regression models, adjusted for baseline values, evaluated intervention effects. RESULTS: Data from 117 participants were analyzed, including 7 early disenrollments. Over 12 months, HIVST participants reported significantly lower perceived sex work stigma than standard of care participants (&#x3b2; = -0.38, P = 0.04; monthly reduction P = 0.003), although the rate of decline did not differ significantly between arms (interaction P = 0.08). Self-esteem and depressive symptoms improved in both arms, with no between-arm differences (interaction P = 0.41 and 0.32). Alcohol misuse and empowerment showed no significant arm differences. CONCLUSION: HIVST may reduce sex work stigma without adverse psychosocial effects, supporting its integration into combination HIV prevention for gender-diverse sex workers in sub-Saharan Africa.

Effects of exercise snacking on neuromuscular performance in insufficiently active adults: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: To examine the effects of exercise snacking (ES) on neuromuscular performance in insufficiently active adults. METHODS: Six databases were searched from inception to July 17, 2026. Randomized controlled trials and non-randomized studies of interventions involving insufficiently active adults undertaking ES interventions were included. Outcomes were functional performance, muscular strength, and muscular power. A three-level random-effects meta-analysis was performed. Risk of bias was assessed with RoB 2 or ROBINS-I, and certainty of evidence was evaluated using GRADE. RESULTS: Nine studies (13 reports) involving 313 participants were included. In the primary three-level model, ES showed a small positive overall effect on neuromuscular performance (g = 0.37, 95% CI 0.16-0.58, p&#x202f;=&#x202f;0.001), which remained supported under trial-clustered robust inference with small-sample adjustment. Domain-specific estimates for muscular power/velocity, functional performance, and muscular strength were positive but imprecise and were not statistically supported after small-sample robust adjustment. Robust moderator tests provided no evidence of between-subgroup differences, and the certainty of evidence was low for all outcomes. CONCLUSION: Current low-certainty evidence suggests that ES may produce a small improvement in overall neuromuscular performance. However, domain-specific effects remain uncertain because of the limited number of independent trials, and the overall prediction interval crossed zero, indicating uncertainty across future populations and settings. Larger, preregistered randomized controlled trials are needed to confirm these preliminary findings.

HRAS promotes mutant NRAS-driven transformation with codon and allele specificity.

Wild-type RAS family members determine the signaling and therapeutic response in cancers driven by mutant HRAS and KRAS because they activate alternate RAS effector pathways. Here, we found that the requirement for wild-type RAS to support mutant NRAS-driven transformation correlated with codon-specific differences in GTP hydrolysis. NRAS with mutations at either Gly12 (G12X) or Gly13 (G13X), which retained the GDP-GTP cycling function, had modest autonomous transforming potential. In contrast, NRAS with GTP-locking mutations at Gln61 (Q61X mutants) was uncoupled from receptor tyrosine kinase (RTK) input, rendering wild-type RAS an obligate partner for RTK-stimulated signaling and oncogenesis. In RASless cells expressing mutant NRAS, reintroduction of wild-type HRAS was sufficient to restore signaling and transformation. Global dependency mapping in human cancer cells revealed functional partitioning, wherein mutant NRAS promoted MAPK signaling and wild-type HRAS promoted PI3K-AKT survival signaling. Consequently, allele-specific or pan-RAS(ON) inhibitors synergized with inhibitors of proximal RTK signaling or of wild-type HRAS or KRAS to overcome this signaling plasticity. Pan-RAS(ON) and HRAS inhibition was synergistic for all NRAS mutants tested, with Q61X mutants showing greater sensitivity. These findings define the signaling partnership between mutant NRAS and wild-type HRAS as a targetable vulnerability and provide a biochemical blueprint for dual RAS inhibition in NRAS-mutated malignancies.

A multi-model genome-wide association study identifies genetic variants underlying resistance to Largemouth Bass Ranavirus (LMBV) in Micropterus salmoides.

Largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) is an economically important freshwater aquaculture species, yet recurrent outbreaks of Largemouth Bass Ranavirus (LMBV) continue to impair production and cause substantial losses. The genetic basis of host variation in LMBV resistance remains insufficiently characterized. Here, we applied a multi-model genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify loci associated with resistance following a controlled challenge with the LMBV-23PY strain. Whole-genome resequencing was performed for 146 phenotyped fish, including 72 susceptible and 74 resistant individuals. After stringent quality control, 877,262 high-quality variants were retained and tested using six GWAS models. Across binary survival status and survival time phenotypes, 32 shared suggestive variants were consistently detected across models, representing suggestive loci for LMBV-23PY resistance. Genes within &#xb1;50&#xa0;kb of these loci were annotated, and functional enrichment highlighted immune- and redox-related biological processes. Three prioritized candidates-GSTT3L (glutathione S-transferase theta-3-like), CGRP2 (calcitonin gene-related peptide 2), and NPPC (natriuretic peptide C)-were associated with pathways involved in oxidative stress responses and immune regulation. Collectively, these results provide insight into the genetic architecture of LMBV-23PY resistance in largemouth bass and identify suggestive variants and associated candidate genes for downstream validation, functional interrogation, and the development of marker-assisted and genome-enabled breeding strategies.

Extragenital testing for gonorrhea and chlamydia in health department clinics in Virginia, 2018-2023.

BACKGROUND: Extragenital testing for chlamydia and gonorrhea infections is now routine in many settings. We assessed temporal and demographic trends in extragenital testing and positivity in public health department clinics in Virginia. METHODS: We analyzed urogenital and extragenital chlamydia/gonorrhea laboratory results for clients aged 15 years or older who attended 116 health department clinics from 2018 to 2023. Test volume and positivity was stratified by anatomic site, year, sex, and age. RESULTS: There were 181,471 client visits with valid test results. The proportion of visits with any extragenital testing increased from 19% to 46% during this time. Male clients were twice as likely as females to receive pharyngeal testing (46% vs. 22%) and five times as likely to be tested rectally (15% vs. 3%). Rectal specimen positivity surpassed urogenital positivity for chlamydia (females and males) and gonorrhea (males only). Overall, one-quarter of clients diagnosed with gonorrhea infections were identified exclusively through extragenital testing, as were 9% of clients with positive chlamydia tests. These proportions increased over time and were greater for younger clients and for males relative to females. Two-thirds of extragenital infections would have been missed by urogenital testing alone, including 40% and 49% of females and 86% and 73% of males with extragenital chlamydia and gonorrhea infections respectively. CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of clients who received extragenital chlamydia/gonorrhea testing increased over time, extragenital test positivity was high, and it identified infections that would have been missed otherwise. The impact on sexually transmitted infection sequelae and transmission remains unclear.

Perceptions of Pharmacogenomic Testing Among People With Treatment Resistant Depression: Legitimization as a Facilitator of Acceptance.

Pharmacogenomic testing for psychiatric medications has been proposed as both an early intervention to optimize treatment response, and for use among patients who have tried multiple medications without symptom remission. Therefore, this testing may be particularly salient to the subset of individuals with major depressive disorder for whom depression has been labeled as "treatment resistant". Understanding the impact of this diagnostic label on illness identity and attitudes towards new therapies is important as genomic technology expands and rates of depression increase. We sought to explore perceptions and attitudes towards pharmacogenomic testing among individuals who had received a diagnosis of treatment resistant depression. We conducted a qualitative study with a constructivist orientation. Participants were recruited from a larger genomic research study and interviewed by phone or video call. We took an inductive approach to coding guided by reflexive thematic analysis. Themes were then organized into a relational framework following principles of interpretive description. Twelve individuals were interviewed. Key themes included internalized acceptance/hopelessness, and external validation/frustration, which were cyclically interconnected. These themes were situated within a larger framework illustrating the ways that illness identity and modifying factors such as relief of guilt, social support, pharmacogenomic testing and depressive symptoms can either facilitate acceptance and validation or contribute to feelings of hopelessness and frustration. Though participants expressed some skepticism around its effectiveness, pharmacogenomic testing may contribute to the shift towards acceptance and validation by legitimizing individuals' experiences with lack of treatment response. Genetic counselors and other healthcare providers should be aware of the complex balance between hope and frustration underlying conversations around pharmacogenomic testing, and factors that are more likely to foster self-acceptance.

Financial incentives and social messaging for repeat SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing among the underserved: A randomized trial.

Financial incentives may influence health behavior beyond their expected monetary value, and their effectiveness may depend on how the behavior is framed. Behavioral theories of decision making suggest that individuals may value protection against small-stakes losses more than expected utility predicts, while theories of family-centered health behavior suggest that messages emphasizing benefits to family members may strengthen participation in preventive health activities. We tested these ideas in a 2&#xd7;2 factorial randomized trial involving 625 households recruited from a Federally Qualified Health Center serving low-income Latino/Hispanic communities. Participants completed repeat SARS-CoV-2 antibody testing. The trial crossed two messaging strategies (Family vs. Personal) with two incentive structures (Loss Protection vs. Lottery) that offered equivalent expected monetary value. Family Messaging emphasized protecting one's family from COVID-19, whereas Personal Messaging emphasized protecting oneself. Loss Protection allowed participants to secure an at-risk reward through repeat testing, whereas the Lottery condition offered a chance of a large reward. Repeat testing was approximately 8 percentage points higher under Family Messaging and 7 percentage points higher under Loss Protection. Baseline trust in medical providers, financial barriers to vaccination, and risk aversion were associated with initial testing, whereas household characteristics were not associated with repeat testing. Incentive design may matter beyond expected monetary value and that framing health behaviors in terms of family welfare may increase participation in repeated healthy activities. Broadly, the results support behavioral theories emphasizing loss aversion, anticipated regret, and family-centered motivations, and suggest practical approaches for improving engagement in repeat health behaviors. Malaria rapid diagnostic tests: performance, pitfalls, and progress.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) have revolutionized malaria diagnosis in endemic settings. RDTs are simple to use and accurate for clinical cases, although sensitivity is reduced at parasite densities below 200&#x200a;parasites/&#x3bc;l. However, increasing prevalence of hrp2/3 gene deletions in certain areas threaten utility of histidine-rich protein 2 (HRP2)-based RDTs, and lingering HRP2 antigenemia can generate false-positive results after parasite clearance. This review summarizes current performance of malaria RDTs, threats to their validity, and recent innovations to improve their performance and continued role in malaria diagnosis. RECENT FINDINGS: Most World Health Organization (WHO) prequalified RDTs perform well for clinical diagnosis, with only occasional exceptions, including a recently reported issue affecting several countries. RDT sensitivity is generally related to malaria transmission intensity, with higher proportions of false-negative results in lower-transmission areas. Newly prequalified lactate dehydrogenase (pLDH)-based RDTs perform well for both Plasmodium falciparum in areas with >5% hrp2/3 gene deletions&#xa0;and for Plasmodium vivax diagnosis. Several point-of-care alternatives to RDTs, including micro-fluidic devices, hemozoin-detecting devices, and automated hematology analyzers, have shown promising results in small studies, but require larger-scale trials before widespread use. SUMMARY: RDTs remain a critical tool in clinical diagnosis of malaria, and newer pLDH-based tests perform well in areas where hrp2/3 gene deletions threaten validity of HRP2-based RDTs.

GIP contributes to postprandial regulation of splanchnic blood supply in humans with type 2 diabetes: a randomised, single-blinded, placebo-controlled, crossover study.

AIMS/HYPOTHESIS: In healthy lean humans, endogenous glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) contributes significantly to the postprandial increase in arteria mesenterica superior blood flow. The vascular biology related to activation of the GIP receptor is markedly impaired in individuals with type 2 diabetes and is sometimes absent. In this population, we investigated the role of endogenous GIP on postprandial splanchnic blood flow by using the GIP receptor antagonist, GIP(3-30)NH2. The primary outcome of this study was the changes in blood flow in arteria mesenterica superior during oral glucose with or without GIP receptor antagonist infusion. METHODS: Ten participants with type 2 diabetes (age 20-80 years, BMI 20-35 kg/m2, and HbA1c >48 mmol/mol and <75 mmol/mol) were investigated in a randomised, placebo-controlled, crossover study. On four separate occasions, participants received the following treatment: oral glucose + i.v. GIP(3-30)NH2; oral glucose + i.v. saline (154 mmol/l NaCl); oral water + i.v. GIP(3-30)NH2; oral water + i.v. saline. Participants were randomly assigned to intervention groups using (random.org). Participants were unaware of allocation, while investigators were aware. No additional allocation concealment procedures were used. During all four interventions, splanchnic blood flow was measured using phase-contrast MRI in the arteria mesenterica superior, truncus coeliacus and vena portae during oral glucose (75 g) or water ingestion. The study was conducted at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen. Liver volume and oxygenation, as well as gallbladder volume, were assessed. Blood samples were collected and analysed for insulin, C-peptide, GIP, glucagon and glucose. RESULTS: Oral glucose alone increased mean blood flow in arteria mesenterica superior by 57% (95% CI 26, 88) and this was 15% (95% CI -2, 32) lower during concomitant GIP receptor antagonist infusion, p=0.012. Infusion of GIP receptor antagonist during oral glucose treatment did also result in lower insulin secretion, C-peptide and C-peptide/glucose ratio compared with saline infusion, whereas glucagon levels and plasma glucose were unaffected. Oral water did not affect any outcomes. CONCLUSIONS/INTERPRETATION: Endogenous GIP contributes to postprandially increased splanchnic blood flow in people with type 2 diabetes. Not just when, but how: An exploratory dual-control approach to video feedback in motor learning.

The present study provides exploratory evidence for a novel dual-control paradigm. It examines whether combining temporal over video feedback timing with learner-controlled interactive playback functions (pause, slow-motion, rewind) would enhance motor skill acquisition beyond temporal autonomy alone. Sixty-four novice adults were randomly assigned to one of four conditions: Full Control (self-controlled timing + interactive replay), Partial Control (self-controlled timing + non-interactive replay), Yoked Full Control (externally controlled timing + interactive replay), or Yoked Partial Control (externally controlled timing + non-interactive replay). Motor accuracy (Radial Error), movement consistency (Bivariate Variable Error), technical execution, and self-efficacy were assessed at pre-test, 24-h retention, and 72-h retention following two acquisition sessions on a dart-throwing task (120 trials total). The Full Control group demonstrated the greatest and most durable learning gains across all outcomes. The Group &#xd7; Time interaction was significant across all dependent variables (&#x3b7;2&#x209a; ranging from 0.140 to 0.234), with Full Control demonstrating superior retention at both 24 and 72&#xa0;h relative to other groups (though differences relative to Partial Control were more pronounced at 72-h retention). Critically, the Yoked Full Control group showed comparatively weaker outcomes despite access to the same interactive playback functions. These findings suggest that interactive video tools may be most useful when learners can regulate both when feedback is accessed and how it is inspected. Theoretical and practical implications for the design of learner-centered video feedback systems are discussed.

Sulfonic Ion-Exchange Resins as Versatile Tools for the Oxidative Degradation of Chemical and Biological Hazardous Agents.

Commercial sulfonic styrene-divinylbenzene ion-exchange resins are activated with aqueous H2O2 to generate metal-free decontamination systems that combine strong Br&#xf8;nsted acidity with immobilized oxidizing capability. Among five tested materials, Amberlyst 15 dry showed the best performance in terms of oxidant immobilization capacity and promoting the oxidative degradation of the sulfur mustard simulant (2-chloroethyl)ethyl sulfide, CEES, and the organophosphorus pesticide malathion under very mild conditions. Control experiments with K2CO3-exchanged resin demonstrate that efficient decontamination requires the synergy between surface acidity and peroxide functionality. The activated resins also display rapid biocidal activity, strongly reducing viable Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus and completely suppressing the infectivity of HSV-1 and SARS-CoV-2 within min. These findings identify peroxide-activated sulfonic resins as simple, sustainable, regenerable, and versatile tools for efficient combined hazardous chemical and biological decontamination.

Predictive value of anal sphincter electromyography for sacral neuromodulation test-phase outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Sacral neuromodulation (SNM) is an established therapy for refractory pelvic organ dysfunction. Anal sphincter electromyography (EMG) is commonly used preoperatively to assess sacral and peripheral nerve integrity. However, the prognostic significance of chronic neurogenic EMG changes for SNM outcomes remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether chronic neurogenic changes on preoperative anal sphincter EMG predict the outcome of the SNM test phase. METHODS: We retrospectively analysed 62 consecutive patients with bladder and/or bowel dysfunction or pelvic pain who were candidates for SNM treatment and who underwent preoperative anal sphincter EMG. EMG findings were classified as normal or showing chronic neurogenic changes. SNM test-phase success was defined as a &#x2265;50% improvement of symptoms at 24&#xa0;days. Outcomes were compared between EMG groups. RESULTS: Of the 62 patients (49 women, 13 men), 30 (48%) had normal EMG findings and 32 (52%) showed chronic neurogenic changes. Overall, the SNM test phase was successful in 47 patients (76%). Success rates were similar in patients with normal EMG (72%) and neurogenic EMG changes (79%), with no statistically significant difference (p&#xa0;=&#xa0;0.878). Sex-stratified analyses revealed no significant association between EMG findings and test-phase success in women or men. CONCLUSIONS: Chronic neurogenic changes on anal sphincter EMG do not predict SNM test-phase outcomes. These findings suggest that abnormal sphincter EMG results should not be used as a standalone criterion to exclude patients from SNM therapy. SIGNIFICANCE: Signs of neurogenic damage on anal sphincter EMG are not an indicator of reduced neuromodulatory capacity or diminished clinical response to SNM.
