Abstract

Master model construction using a plexiglass base is a procedure used in many dental laboratories. The following technique uses the Compact System to create a precision master model. This system is functionally superior to pour and base techniques because of its improved precision, better placement and improved cleanliness of the holes that receive the dowel pins.

Tooth position index for the fabrication of a mandibular implant-supported overdenture bar.

This article describes an index for the fabrication of a mandibular implant-supported overdenture bar. The index is a two-piece mold made from an addition silicone putty material. It is used to record and maintain the relative position of the morphologic contours of the trial denture to the master cast. The split-mold design permits direct visualization of the amount of space available for the design of the retentive bar from both the facial and lingual aspects while ensuring room for an adequate thickness of the denture base resin, without the need to remove the teeth from the trial denture wax-up.

Effect of denture thickness on tooth movement during processing of complete dentures.

In this investigation the effect of denture thickness on tooth movement during processing of complete dentures was studied. A maxillary cast from a patient was duplicated to obtain 10 identical casts. Base plates were constructed on five casts using 1.25 mm thick wax. Base plates were constructed on the other five casts using 2.5 mm thick wax. Teeth were placed on the ridge of each cast and a TMS pin was placed vertically, upright, in each tooth. The dentures were invested, cured, decasted, finished and polished. Each denture was radiographed immediately before processing, after deflasking, on removal from the cast and after finishing and polishing using a standard technique. The radiographs were digitized using an Eikonix image digitizer. The results showed that there were significant variations in tooth movement between thick and thin denture bases. Also an increase in the molar-to-molar distance was found in both the thin and thick dentures but the magnitude of tooth movement was more in thick dentures.

[Mechanical properties of titanium casting obtained using short-time cast procedure].

The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical properties of titanium casting obtained using short-time cast procedure. A commercial phosphate-bonded investment for titanium casting were used. And dumbbell-shaped specimens with phi 2 mm x 14 mm parallel portion were cast according to manufacture instruction and by way of three different short-time cast procedures. Then, micro vickers hardness test and tensile test were performed with these specimens. In the hardness test, the micro vickers hardness of 50 approximately 250 microns deep location from specimen surface was ranged from 192.8 to 259.0 Hv; there were significant difference among both the location factor and the casting procedure factor by the two-way ANOVA (p < 0.05). In the tensile test, tensile strength, yield strength, elastic modulus and elongation were obtained: these tensile properties of short-time cast procedures were not significantly different from those of manufacture instruction. These results indicated that the short-time cast procedure for titanium casting was available in the point of mechanical properties. It was, however, not obvious that how the short-time cast procedures effected the dimensional accuracy of titanium casting. Therefore, further investigation was needed for the practical usage of this method.
