Cephalometric evaluation of surgical orthodontic treatment for the correction of anterior cross-bites.

Severe skeletal Class III malocclusion cases were treated by surgical orthodontic techniques. Surgical operations included alveolar osteotomy, horizontal osteotomy of the mandibular ramus, osteotomy of the mandibular body, and sagittal-split osteotomy of the mandibular ramus, according to the type of malocclusion. Comparisons between lateral cephalograms made before and after operation at the prognosis examination were made for the four surgical procedures.

Topographical arrangement of hypoglossal motoneurons: an HRP study in the cat.

Myotopical localization of hypoglossal motoneurons and representation of the main branches of the hypoglossal nerve within the hypoglossal nucleus were examined in the cat by the HRP method. The hypoglossal nucleus is divided cytoarchitectonically into the ventromedial and dorsolateral divisions; the medial and lateral branches of the hypoglossal nerve are represented respectively in the ventromedial and dorsolateral divisions. The genioglossus motoneurons are located in the ventrolateral part of the ventromedial division, and the geniohyoid motoneurons are in the most ventral part of the ventromedial division. The hypoglossus and styloglossus motoneurons are located in the lateral and dorsolateral parts of the dorsolateral division.

Localization of motoneurons innervating the posterior belly of the digastric muscle: a comparative anatomical study by the HRP method.

Motoneurons innervating the posterior belly of the digastric muscle were identified in the monkey, cat, dog, guinea pig and rat by the HRP method. After injections of horseradish peroxidase (HRP) into the posterior belly of the digastric muscle, two groups of HRP-labeled motoneurons were observed; the rostral group was seen as a small cluster of neurons in the lateral reticular area along the medial border of the descending root of the facial nerve, and the neurons of the caudal group were distributed among the ascending root fibers of the facial nerve. The distribution pattern of these neurons corresponded to that of the accessory facial nucleus neurons. The accessory facial nucleus was lacking in the rabbit in which the posterior digastric (PD) muscle is nonexistent.

Isolation of a new peptide antibiotic, permetin A, from Bacillus circulans.

Permetin A was purified from the culture filtrate of Bacillus circulans AJ 3902 by extraction with n-butanol, precipitation with sodium helianthate, CM-cellulose column chromatography and Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography. The compound was found to be a new peptide antibiotic containing 2,4-diaminobutyric acid (Dab), leucine, isoleucine, phenylalanine, valine, serine (in a molar ratio of 3:2:1:1:1:1) and a fatty acid. This antibiotic showed activity in vitro against Gram-negative, Gram-positive and some anaerobic bacteria.

The structure of permetin A, a new polypeptin type antibiotic produced by Bacillus circulans.

The structure of permetin A(I), an antibiotic substance produced by Bacillus circulans AJ 3902, has been elucidated as a cyclic acyl peptide by means of the mass and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques. (Formula: see text.) The structure was found to be the same as polypeptin A(II) except that L-Thr in II is replaced by L-Ser in I. Details of the structural determination are given for the permetin A itself as well as for the hydrolyzed permetin A. (Formula: see text.)
