A rare case of an intraoral glomus tumor on the ventral surface on the tongue was studied by light and electron microscopy. With light microscopy, the tumor was composed of dilated vascular channels surrounded by "epithelioid" glomus cells exhibiting large round nuclei and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm. Bodian stains showed significant staining for nerve fibers among the tumor cells. Electron microscopic study demonstrated that the tumor cells had ultrastructural features which were similar to both smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells, suggesting that a "transitional" cell may give rise to glomus tumor. The literature on oral glomus tumors is briefly reviewed.

Female germfree (Gf) and conventional (Cv) ICR mice aged 21-25 days were administered with hCG (50IU/head/day for 2 days). Six hours after the last administration, uterine weights of Gf and Cv mice were 175.8 mg% and 238.7 mg% respectively, the difference between Gf and Cv animals was statistically significant (p less than 0.05). Ovariectomized Gf and Cv mice aged 80-150 days were successively administered with estradiol benzoate (0.02 mg/head/day for 5 days). Six hours after the last administration, uterine weights of Gf and Cv mice were 358.8 mg% and 462.7 mg% respectively, being statistically significant between Gf and Cv animals (p less than 0.01). After administration of estradiol benzoate (0.02 mg/head/day for 2 days), 1.0 mg/head/day of progesterone for 3 days were given ovariectomized Gf and Cv mice aged 80-150 days. Six hours after the last administration, uterus of Gf and Cv mice were weight 337.6 mg% and 423.5 mg% respectively, the difference was statistically significant (p less than 0.01). Castrated Gf and Cv mice aged 80-150 days were administered with 1.0 mg of testosterone propionate (head/day for 5 days). Six hours after the last administration, weights of seminal vesicle and coagulating gland of Gf and Cv mice were 376.0 mg% and 611.8 mg% respectively, the difference was statistically significant (p less than 0.01).
The solution spinning of a random copolypeptide of gamma-benzyl-L-glutamate polymerized with L-alanine at a mole ratio of 1 to 4 has been examined. Good fibers were obtained by using dichloroacetic acid and water as solvent and coagulation reagent respectively. The mechanical properties of the fibers are comparable with those of natural fibers.
The effects of 5 alpha-dihydrotestosterone (DHT) and thyroxine (T4) on glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PDH) activity in mouse submandibular gland were investigated histochemically. A strong positive histochemical reaction for G-6-PDH was observed in the excretory ducts of untreated male and female mice, with a slight reaction in the basal portion of the convoluted tubules (striated ducts) of males. Administration of DHT to female mice increased G-6-PDH activity specifically in the convoluted tubules. T4 increased the enzyme activity in the tubules more than DHT. The induction of G-6-PDH activity by T4 in adrenalectomized mice suggests that T4 has a direct effect on the submandibular gland.
A case of leiomyosarcoma that appeared to have originated in the ligamentum teres hepatis of a 66-year-old female has been presented. The case was suspected of leiomyosarcoma originating in the ligamentum teres of the liver from the findings by preoperative examinations, and definitely diagnosed as such in a laparotomy and by histological examination of the resected tissue specimen.
