[Primary chylopericardium: a case report].

A case of primary chylopericardium in a 54 year-old-man was reported. Despite 3 times of pericardiocentesis, the pericardial fluid accumulated rapidly. After the fenestration of pericardium, a small cannula was inserted for the thoracic ductgram which showed a clearly visible duct upward to the angulus venosus and an abnormal branch near the bifurcation of the trachea spilling some contrast material into the pericardial cavity. Ligation and division of the thoracic duct including an abnormal branch was performed from its entry to the thorax for a length of 13 cm upward. The postoperative course was uneventful and chest X-ray film taken 6 months after surgery showed no accumulation of chyle in the pericardium and pleural cavity.

Agrobacterium rhizogenes lacZ-rolC gene expression in Escherichia coli: detection of the product in transgenic plants using RolC-specific antibodies.

The rolC sequence of the Agrobacterium rhizogenes Ri plasmid was fused in-frame to the 3' end of the lacZ gene in plasmid pEX3. The fusion protein RolC-beta-galactosidase was accumulated as insoluble inclusion bodies in Escherichia coli. Antibodies were raised in rabbits against the fusion protein. After affinity purification, RolC-specific antibodies were found to react with a 22-kDa polypeptide prepared from roots of transgenic tobacco plants possessing a rolC gene. The result of differential centrifugation suggested that RolC is present in the soluble fraction of transformed cells.

A case of malignant duct-islet cell tumor of the pancreas immunohistochemical and cytofluorometric study.

A rare duct-islet cell tumor of the pancreas was studied using immunohistochemical, cytofluorometric and histochemical methods. Histology and immunohistochemistry revealed that the tumor contained two distinct cell types; islet cell-like neuroendocrine cells and exocrine duct cell components, suggesting an endodermal origin for both types. The cells showed marked pleomorphism an vascular and perineural invasion at the tumor periphery. Cytofluorometric study of the tumor cell DNA revealed an increased mean nuclear DNA content, without any aneuploidy. Histochemically, the tumor cells contained an increased number of argyrophilic nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) in their nuclei. The malignant potential of this duct-islet cell tumor was suggested.

Immunoadsorption with PH-350: as a beneficial therapy for acute Guillain-Barre syndrome.

The subjects here were patients (two males and a female) with the severe acute Guillain-Barre Syndrome admitted to our hospital between September 1987 and December 1988. One case was treated with a double filtration plasmapheresis and two cases were with a immunoadsorption. Of the two extracorponeal thrapeutical methods, the clinical efficacies seemed not to be different however biochemical and serological laboratory data showed prominent differences. For instance the large molecular substances in blood; immunoglobulins, coagulating factors and albumin were reduced in plasma levels by the double filtration plasmapheresis, but not or less by the immunoadsorption. Considering the expectable side effects of the two methods, it may say that the immunoadsorption should be applied as a beneficial extracorponeal method for the acute Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
