[Clinical study of purified xuefu capsule in treating angina pectoris].

OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of purified Xuefu Capsule (PXFC) in treating angina pectoris (AP). METHODS: Fifty-seven patients with AP were randomly divided into two groups. Group A (30 cases) was treated with PXFC and western medicine, and group B(27 cases) with western medicine (isosorbide dinitrate, diltiazem or atenolol) alone. RESULTS: The total effective rates and ECG ST-T changes of AP were 93.3% and 63.3% respectively in group A. These results were all superior to those of group B (P < 0.05). Moreover, in group A the level of plasma endothelin (ET-1) decreased from 85.09 +/- 37.56 ng/L to 61.19 +/- 4.02 ng/L, and that of calcitonin gene related peptide (CGRP) increased from 58.64 +/- 19.30 ng/L to 88.87 +/- 20.41 ng/L. Comparing with group B, these changes were statistically different (P < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: The effects of adding PXFC on conventional treatment with western medicine were better than those of western medicine.

[Expression of ras, p53, proliferating cell nuclear antigen in squamous cell carcinoma of maxillary sinus and their significance].

OBJECTIVE: To determine the expression of ras, p53 and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA) in squamous cell carcinoma(SCC), inverting papilloma(IP), inflammatory mucosa(IM) of maxillary sinus and analyze the correlation between their expression and the clinicopathological characters and prognosis of SCC of maxillary sinus(SCCMS). METHODS: Expression of ras, p53 and PCNA was determined in 40 cases of SCC, 20 cases of IP and 10 cases of IM of maxillary sinus with immunohistochemical technique. RESULTS: Expression of ras was correlated with differentiation of SCCMS, it was more frequent in well differentiated SCC than in poorly differentiated SCC. Expression of p53 was only present in SCCMS, there was not expression of p53 in IP and IM of maxillary sinus. The patients with high PCNA index SCCMS had a poorer prognosis than those with low PCNA index in SCCMS. CONCLUSION: p53 protein may be a diagnostic marker in SCCMS. Measurement of PCNA index may be helpful in estimating prognosis and directing clinical treatment in SCCMS.

[Effects of the glucoprotein component of musk on functions of rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes activated by LTB4 in vitro].

To investigate the effects of musk-1, a glucoprotein component isolated from the water extract of musk, on some functions of rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes activated by LTB4, an in vitro incubation system with rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes was used. The superoxide anion production was determined by cytochrome C reduction, and the beta-glucuronidase and lysozyme release was quantitated by enzyme reactions in which phenolphthaleinglucuronic acid and micrococcus lysodeikticus were used as the substrates. In comparison with the control, musk-1 at final concentrations of 1 microgram/ml-100 micrograms/ml can increase the superoxide anion production by 28.7%-202.1% and decrease the beta-glucuronidase and lysozyme release by 3%-46% and 6%-32% respectively in rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes. It is concluded that musk-1 can significantly affect the functions of rat polymorphonuclear leukocytes activated by LTB4. One of the mechanisms of this anti-inflammatory action of musk may consist in the inhibition of lysosomal enzyme release.

[Effect of Acorus tatarinowii Schott. on gastrointestinal myoelectric activity in rats].

The effect of Acorus tatarinowii on the gastrointestinal myoelectric activity and mechanism in rats was studied electrio-physiologically. The result indicates that Acorus tatarinowii helps inhibit the gastrointestinal myoelectric activity. This inhibitory effect is believed to take place through the blocking of cholinergic M and non-cholinergic M receptors, and has nothing to do with adrenergic alpha and beta receptors.

[Clinical analysis of Doppler waveform in arterial occlusive disease in the lower limbs].

OBJECTIVE: In order increase the diagnostic standard of Doppler ultrasound to arterial occlusive disease in the lower limbs. METHODS: 120 normal lower limbs and 66 lower limbs with arterial occlusive disease were measured by directional Doppler blood velocity detector in different segments. The peak forward velocity(PFV), peak reverse velocity(PRV), acceleration time(AT), and deceleration time(DT) were determined and compared. RESULTS: The blood flow velocity of the lower limb arteries was gradually slowed down from the proximal to the distal in the normal group. The ratio of distal to proximal PFA, PRV, AT and DT was less than 1.0. PFV and PRV in the disease group were slower than in the normal group(P < 0.01). AT and DT in the disease group were longer than in the normal group(P < 0.01). It was discovered that the ratio of distal to proximal DT was greater than 1.0 in arterial stenosis(> 50%) or occlusion (collateral artery development). CONCLUSION: The results were compared those of arteriography. The diagnostic coincidence ratio of Doppler ultrasound for localization was 91%(60/66).

[Phacoemulsification in myopia and negative or low powered posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation].

OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to investigate the technique and clinical experience of phacoemulsification in myopia and negative or low powered posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation (PC-IOL). METHODS: 120 eyes of 102 cases with myopia and cataract were included (axial length >or=28 mm) and hardness of nucleus was of grade 2 in 5 eyes, grade 3 in 84 eyes, grade 4 in 16 eyes and grade 5 in 15 eyes. Tunnel incision was made and in situ nuclear fracture technique by phacoemulsification was used. Energy and time of emulsification: 50% - 60% of energy was set up and emulsification spent 40s to 2 min. 10 s (mean, 1 min. 11.3s) for nuclear sclerosis of grade 2 or 3.65% - 70% of energy was set up and emulsification spent 48s to 1 min. 22s (mean, 68.7s) for cutting the central nucleus and removing the divided nucleus (grade 4 or 5). RESULTS: There were 120 eyes in this group. Eleven to 22 months after operation (mean 14.5 months) the visual acuities of 0.5 or better with and without correction were obtained in 62.6% and 43.4% respectively. The major complications were corneal edema and rupture of posterior capsule. No retinal detachment and cystoid macular edema were found. CONCLUSION: This operation is suitable for myopia with cataract. It is worth to spread due to good visual result, proper correction of ametropia, prevention of retinal detachment, and decrease of operative complications.

[Application of ultrasound microscope for the reattachment surgery of detachment of ciliary body].

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the advantages of ultrasound biomicroscope (UBM) used for the reattachment surgery of traumatic ciliary body detachment. METHODS: 33 cases diagnosed by UBM as ciliary body detachment were studied. The surgical results of these cases were analyzed and compared with that of 83 cases which were simply diagnosed by a gonioscope. RESULTS: 31 of the 33 cases regained the normal intraocular pressure (IOP) after once of operation (94%), and all cases achieved successful results after twice of operation (100%). Of the 83 cases examined only by gonioscopy, the rates of reaching normal IOP after the 1(st), 2(nd) and 3(rd) operations were 82%, 94% and 96% respectively. CONCLUSIONS: These results suggest that the UBM be useful for the tiny and narrow detachment of ciliary body which can not be seen by a gonioscope. UBM has important clinical value in diagnosis, guide to the range of suture and follow-up observation. With the use of UBM, the frequency of operation necessary for surgical success and blindness in action in the operation will be reduced, and the successful rate of once of operation will be increased significantly.

[Effects of isorhapotigenin and resveratrol on function of peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes from rabbits].

In effects of isorhapotigenin and resveratrol on chemotaxis and release of beta-glucuronidase from rabbit peripheral blood polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with formylmethionyl-leucyl-phenyl-phenylalanine (fMLPP) were studied. The optimal concentration of fMLPP for the induction of chemotaxis of polymorphonuclear leukocytes was approximately at 5 x 10(-10) mol.L-1. fMLPP, at the concentration range of 10(-10)-10(-6) mol.L-1, dose-dependently increased the release of beta-glucuronidase from polymorphonuclear leukocytes. Isorhapotigenin and resveratrol both inhibited the chemotaxis of polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with fMLPP(5 x 10(-10) mol.L-1). Isorhapotigenin, at the concentration range of 10(-5)-10(-4) mol.L-1, dose-dependently inhibited the release of beta-glucuronidase from polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with fMLPP(10(-8) mol.L-1). Resveratrol, at the concentrations of 1 x 10(-5) and 3 x 10(-5) mol.L-1, was shown to dose-dependently inhibit beta-glucuronidase release from polymorphonuclear leukocytes stimulated with fMLPP(10(-8) mol.L-1).

[Effects of leukotrienes on production of interleukin 6 from mouse peritoneal macrophages].

In the present study, effects of leukotrienes on IL-6 production by mouse resident peritoneal macrophages were explored with a bioassay method involving IL-6 dependent murine hybridoma B9 cell line. The results showed that LTB4, LTC4 and LTD4 can enhance the production of IL-6 from cultured peritoneal macrophages of mice. The optimal concentractions for LTB4, LTC4 and LTD4 were found to be 1.45 x 10(-6), 6.9 x 10(-8) and 8.05 x 10(-8) mol.L-1, respectively. The results suggest that peptide leukotrienes might play important role on IL-6 production in the local milieu of inflammation.

[Observation on the infectivity of different densities of Plasmodium vivax to Anopheles sinensis].

AIM: To study the infectivity of different densities of P. vivax to An. sinensis. METHODS: Venous blood samples from 38 volunteers artificially infected with P. vivax of South-Yunnan collected at the time of initial parasitaemia, primary attack and relapse, were used to infect Anopheles sinensis by feeding on parasitaemia blood in vitro. The finding of oocysts in the mid-gut of the mosquito by microscope was taken as criteria of positive infection. RESULTS: P. vivax in the initial parasitaemia did not infect the mosquito. In the cases of primary attack, when the density of parasite was more than 100/microliter blood, the infectivity and intensity rose with the prolongation of the course of the disease and the increase in the density of the parasite. The infectivity of the P. vivax in the relapse cases was higher than in the primary attack cases, the mosquitoes could be infected at a parasite density of 1/microliter blood. The mosquitoes acquired a higher infection rate, a higher positive rate of mosquito mid-gut and a higher oocyst index in the primary attack cases whose parasite density were higher than 1,000/microliter blood and in the relapse cases whose parasite density were higher than 100/microliter blood. CONCLUSION: The P. vivax in the period of clinical attack was one of the most dangerous period of the spread of malaria. The cases of relapse were the more dangerous infective sources in malaria transmission.
