[Coincidence of malformations of the cardiovascular system as well as of the kidneys and of the efferent urinary tract (author's transl)].

Excretion urograms were prepared subsequent to angiocardiograph in a total of 115 cardiac catheter examinations. 104 of these examinations were evaluated. In 17 cases (16.3%), malformation of the kidney or the ureter was found. In consideration of the fact that such fundings are often directly linked to therapeutic consequences (plastic operations), the additional preparation of an excretion urogram is indicated during cardiac catheter examinations.

[Behçet's syndrome (author's transl)].

Descriptions of Behçet's syndrome have been appearing more and more frequently in dermatological, ophthalmological, neurological, and pathological literature as well as in the literature in the field of internal medicine. Only two reports (1, 8) have appeared in gynecological journals during the last 15 years, even though the second most frequent symptom of the disease is vulval and/or vaginal aphthae and/or ulcers (80%-90% of the patients). For this reason, the diagnostic problems, therapeutic possibilities and prognosis were explained with the help of this casuistic contribution.

Immunodiagnostics of malignant diseases. II. The electrophoretic mobility test in the diagnosis of gynecological malignancies.

We applied the electrophoretic mobility test (EMT) to 117 patients. 49 patients suffered from gynecological malignant tumors of different types and eleven had a carcinoma in situ. 57 patients served as a control group, 26 of whom were clinically healthy volunteers and 31 had benign gynecological diseases. In the EMT all malignant cases had inhibition values of at least-5% or even more. All other tested persons, the so-called non-malignant or healthy cases, had an inhibition of less than -5% or even an acceleration of the tanned sheep erythrocytes stabilized with sulfosalicylic acid (ETS).

[The influence of norephedrinetheophylline-noradrenalinetheophylline on the orthostatic disturbance of the circulatory regulation in children (author's transl)].

In 20 children with orthostasis syndrome of the sympathicotonic type of cardiac and circulatory parameters were studied with sphygmography according to Broemster-Ranke and the time values of cardiac action according to Blumberger for 10 minutes both in horizontal and vertical positions (reclinable tabel 65 degrees). These tests were done prior to and 30 minutes after application of 1 tablet of Akrinor and following four weeks of treatment with 1 tablet Akrinor/die. In comparison to orthostasis tests without medication we found after application of Akrinor an increase in the amplitude of blood pressure and cardiac output, a reduction of the excessive centralization together with a decrease in the resistance of the peripheral vessels. The time values, lengthened due to orthostasis, are shortened.

[Anthropometric studies in healthy children of a large town. I. Methods].

Based on the development of systematic investigations into child growth in the GDR, the importance of normal values of exact anthropometric parameters, which have to be checked every 10 years, is to be emphasized. For this reason, 1500 patients of the Pediatric Clinic of the Erfurt Medical School in the age between 1 and 3,5 years, were anthropometrically measured applying the slightly modified definitions by Martin-Saller 1959. Body length, trunk length, width of shoulders and pelvis as well as 10 limb measures and 7 skull measures were taken.

[Anthropometric studies in healthy children of a large town. 2. Results and normal values].

Mean values and standard deviations found in a population of 1500 children in the age between 1 and 3,5 years of 21 anthropometric parameters are given. They are statistically different and can be used as normal values. The growth of boys and girls is shown to be steady with age, in particular, as for as length and width measures are concerned. There are some significant sex differences. The practical use of the results is tested at present.

[Effect of cardiac catheter investigations and angiocardiography on enzyme activity in serum (author's transl)].

The serum activities of LDH, alpha-HBDH, CK, GOT and GPT wer investigated in 124 patients who had undergone cardiac catheterization with angiocardiography or coronary angiography. The determinations were made before and 2, 16 and 40 hours after the investigation. There was no significant influence on the enzyme activities. Lengthy intracardial catheter manipulation, trans-septal puncture and ventriculography may cause transient clinically unimportant increases in activity, especially of CK within normal limits. Distinctly pathological enzyme values were only measured in individual cases of intramyocardial contrast media depots after ventriculogram.

Measurements on fast light-induced light-scattering and -absorption changes in outer segments of vertebrate light sensitive rod cells.

Flash-induced changes of light-absorption and of light-scattering of vertebrate rod outer segments (ROS) from frog and cattle in suspension were measured at 380 and 800 nm. The photometer used allows the observation of light intensity changes under well defined angles. We studied the successive decrease of the signal amplitude in series of flashes. One flash bleaches about 1% rhodopsin. The following results are discussed: 1. The signal at 380 nm is a superposition of the absorption change caused by formation of metarhodopsin II and of a biphasic additional signal. The latter exists only for the initial range of bleaching (15 to 25% rhodopsin). 2. At 800 nm three scattering signals are observed which are characterized by their successive amplitude decrease and time course: N: A small signal with time course and successive amplitude decrease comparable to the metarhodopsin II absorption change, probably arising from a structural change within the disc membrane. Ni: A slow signal, disappearing with the first flash, which may be understood as an outer membrane effect. P: A biphasic signal with a successive decrease rate, by a factor of 10 to 20 higher than that of the metarhodopsin II signal. The two kinetically different components are separated by variation of the observation angle. Two regions of different extension appear to change structurally with different time course. "P" may reflect an influence of the light-induced transmitter release on disc shape and/or mass.

[Genital malformations in thalidomide-damaged girls (author's transl)].

Due to the close morphological relationships and the dependence of the genital system on inductive impulses from the uropoietic system, the possibility of an increased incidence of malformations in the area of the female genitals for thalidomide-damaged children is to be expected. This suspicion is supported by the accumulation of reports of genital malformations in deceased children from mothers who took thalidomide-containing medicaments during the early weeks of pregnancy. - A 14-year-old patient with malformations of both upper extremities whose mother had taken thalidomide during the 6th to the 9th week of pregnancy presented at our hospital with complaints of cyclic pain in the lower abdomen. Although the ovaries and fallopian tubes were normally developed, the uterus and the vagina were absent in this patient. After this manuscript had been completed, we heard of 3 additional cases of genital malformation with a known thalidomide anamnesis.

[Risks and results of banding surgery (author's transl)].

A Muller-Dammann banding operation was performed in 64 infants and small children within 5 years. The diagnosis and the surgical risk (between 5.9% and 65% depending on the degree of intracardial malformation) were presented. Complications and cause of death were described and compared with data presented in the literature. Twenty-three patients were given a follow-up examination with special cardiac diagnostic methods. The hemodynamic results were compared with those from 9 children who were operated on late. As other authors, were also found a pronounced reduction in pulmonary flow in those children operated on early and not in those operated on late.
