[Immunological reactivity of suckling pigs born to sows immunized against the lapinized K vaccine].

The lapinized K vaccine was used to immunize 25 five-day-old pigs and 27 ten-day-old pigs. A group of 10 pigs were also included in the experiment as controls. All animals originated from eight sows treated with a lapinized K vaccine on the 70th day of pregnancy. On the 14th day following vaccination part of the pigs of the two test groups were revaccinated. Three months later half of the immunized pigs were infected with a pathogenic swine fever virus. The remaining animals were infected then in a six months time following immunization. Systematic clinical and morphological investigations were carried out. It was concluded that the 5-day-old animals possessed much lower immunologic responsiveness to the lapinized K vaccine against swine fever as against the 10-day-old ones. Revaccination with the same vaccine on the 14th day led to a weaker immune response as compared to single vaccination. The immunity of the vaccinated 10-day-old pigs, originating from sows that had been immunized with the same vaccine during pregnancy, lasted about three months.

[Level of viral antibodies in normal and specific swine and bovine gamma globulin preparations].

Studied were 15 series of normal bovine gamma-globulin, 5 series of normal swine gamma-globulin, 7 series of Aujeszky gamma-globulin, 6 series of specific gamma-globulin against edema disease of pigs, 4 series of specific gamma-globulin against paratyphus, 5 series of Mixoglobulin-70, and one series of swine poly-globulin. All series of gamma-globulin preparations were studied for the presence of antibodies against Mixovirus parainfluenza-3 through the hemagglutinationinhibition reaction, antibodies against adenoviruses through the precipitation reaction in agar gel, and antibodies against the virus of Aujeszky's disease through the virus-neutralization reaction in tissue cultures.

The author selected and translated from Bulgarian publications 11 inscriptions from tombstones (epitaphs), votive and memorial stones. The inscriptions referred to are usually in Greek, and more rarely in Latin, and date back to the I-VI century of the modern era. Of particular significance are the inscriptions from the Aesclepiades from Odessos (the modern city of Varna), about Glaucos, the athenian from Mesambria (Nessebar) and about Spartakos Deixipos from Tzimidrene (Batkun), who is the only Thracian physician epigraphically certified. The medical association is also mentioned, as well as a Roman military physician, a veterinary physician etc.
