The shoulder dystocia represents a case of obstetrical emergency with possible traumatisation of the neonates during delivery. The use of different developing-methods on the child or the mother reduces the risk of children's damage.

[Shoulder dystocia as an obstetrical complication].
A case report shows pediatrical and obstetrical aspects of the rare occurring shoulder dystocia. Beyond the cases' valuation conclusions will be taken for a prospective obstetrics.

[Delivery of overweight infants].
Overweight was recorded from 9.6 per cent of 6155 infants born between 1976 and 1981. Birth weights were between 4000 g and 4499 g in 8.5 per cent of the newborns, between 4500 g and 4999 g in 0.9 per cent, and in excess of 5000 g in 0.2 per cent. Sixty-five newborns with birth weights above 4500 g were evaluated in greater detail. The male-female ratio was almost three to one. The average age of the mothers was 25.7 years. Fifty-nine children were born spontaneously, three by forceps, and three by caesarean section. The Apgar score was eight and more in 64 newborns. The case history of one postnatal death is described. Puerperal anaemia and involution disorders were quite frequent. Eighteen of the 65 mothers were overweight themselves. A dubious pathological result was obtained from oral glucose tolerance test, six weeks after childbirth. Clinical conclusions are drawn.
