[Bronchomotor hyperreactivity and bronchial patency in patients with acute pneumonia during clinico-roentgenological convalescence].

A study of bronchial permeability in 98 patients with acute pneumonia during clinico-roentgenological convalescence using a method of the analysis of the flow-volume loop diagram showed disorders of bronchial permeability in 73.46% of the patients, of them obvious disorders in 21.42% and latent ones in 52.04%. Hyperreactivity of the tracheobronchial tree to acetylcholine was established in 84.4% of the patients without signs of obvious obstruction and in some cases only to obsidan indicating the presence of disorders of vagotonic regulation without change in the functioning of beta-adrenoreceptors.

[Isolated amyloidosis of the trachea].

A case of isolated amyloidosis of the trachea in a woman aged 46 was described. The main clinical signs of the disease were dry cough, recurring hemoptysis and hoarseness of the voice. Endoscopy showed disseminated polypoid formations in the trachea. A histological study of mucosal biopsy from these formations revealed amyloid masses deposited in the submucosal layer. An additional study brought about no data on the generalized nature of amyloid dystrophy of any other organs. The use of computed tomography to determine the type of tracheal lesion in this localization of the process was shown to be promising.

[Enzyme activity and content of glycerophosphate shuttle metabolites in the cortex and medulla oblongata during hyperbaric oxygenation therapy of acute hemorrhage].

The experiments on cats have demonstrated that hyperbaric oxygenation (303.9 kPa, 60 min) in acute blood loss (24.0 +/- 0.8 ml/kg) has an essential effect on glycerophosphate shuttle mechanism: it stimulates mitochondrial glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase in the sensorimotor cortex and medulla oblongata, providing glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenation, activates cytoplasm hydrogen delivery to mitochondrial respiratory chain, prevents glycerol-3-phosphate and NADH level increase and cytoplasm glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase inhibition, limiting lactate production.

[Bioenergetic processes in the cerebral cortex and diensephalon during hyperbaric oxygenation therapy of acute blood loss].

It has been demonstrated in experiments on 134 cats that during acute blood loss (24 +/- 0.8 ml/kg), hyperbaric oxygen therapy (3039 hPa, 60 min) stimulates cytochrome oxidase, eliminates compensatory activation of mitochondrial creatine kinase and maintains the hyperactivity of cytoplasmic creatine kinase in the diencephalon, stabilizes the elevated AMP content at the level of blood loss compensation stage, prevents the fall in pO2 and in the ATP level as well as that in the energy charge and creatine phosphate content in the sensomotor cortex and subcortex, that is typical for the decompensation stage. Besides, hyperbaric oxygen therapy also averts the development of the terminal state that supervenes in the majority of untreated animals.

[Role of cerebral nitrogen metabolism in the mechanisms of the therapeutic action of oxygen under elevated pressure in hemorrhagic shock].

The hyperbaric oxygen therapy (3 ata O2, 60 min exposure) of hemorrhagic shock in cats (arterial pressure--60/50 mm Hg) prevents a sharp increase of ammonia, urea, alanin, gamma-aminobutyric acid content in the brain, typical of oxygen deficiency, and activates glutamine formation. The processes of ammonia detoxication connected with glutamate and glutamine synthesis intensification course more intensively in the sensory-motor cortex than in the limbic brain structures.

[Evaluation of amyxin effect in prophylaxis of acute respiratory viral infections].

The results of the evaluation of the oral inductor of endogenic interferon (amyxin), manufactured in Russia are presented. The use of amyxin was found to produce a drop in morbidity in acute respiratory virus infections (ARVI) among medical workers 3.4 times, i.e. the preparation exhibited a pronounced prophylactic effect with respect to ARVI. The use of the preparation was accompanied by a decrease in the number of manifest forms of ARVI. Persons given the preparation often had ARVI in a mild or asymptomatic form.

[Glutamine metabolism in the brain and in the liver in critical conditions].

Experiments on cats and rats have established that critical conditions caused by acute hemorrhage, hepatotoxin, and hepatectomy lead to ammonia accumulation in the brain and liver due to the predominance of decay of glutamine over its formation in these organs. With this, the depressed formation of glutamine is a universal cell response to a pathogenic agent whereas a change in glutamine deamination in disease depends on both the nature of a pathogenic agent and the organ wherein this reaction occurs.

[Self-similarity in variability of human heart variability at various stages of ontogenesis].

We consider the potential of applying wavelet analysis to fluctuations found in physiological systems. We focus on cardiac interbeat interval time series (RR-intervals) from a group of young adults and children and fetus heart beat rate time series (antepartum cardiotocography), because the wavelet analysis of these heart rate dynamics may provide important practical diagnostic and prognostic information not obtainable with current approaches. We show that all the signals analyzed are self-similar and propose a method for estimating this scaling feature.

[The dimer form of porcine prolactin].

The properties of a previously isolated disulfide form of pituitary porcine prolactin (pPRL) were studied. Using the immunoblotting technique and anti-pPRL antiserum it was shown that the disulfide dimeric form occurred at every stage of pPRL purification. The biological activity of this form was 11.76 +/- 0.59 IU/mg in comparison with the 2nd International standard of ovine PRL when tested in vivo in pigeon cropsac assay. Immunoelectrophoresis with antiserum to the disulfide dimer of pPRL did not reveal any qualitative differences between this form of the hormone, glycosylated and nonmodified variants of pPRL. The potential physiological role of the form of disulfide dimers in the pituitary gland and circulation was discussed.
