Studies concerning the effects of a pineal peptide extract on collagen metabolism.

The effects of Crinofizin (Cfz), cortisone, triiodothyronine (T3) and methylthiouracil (MTU), alone or in association with one another, on collagen metabolism of impuberal and adult rabbits were tested. These effects were assessed by the hydroxyprolinuria (Hyp) assay corroborated with observations regarding mortality, body weight, diuresis and excretion of nitrogenous substances. Cfz given alone stimulated weight gain and did not alter characteristically the Hyp. Cortisone and T3 given in various doses and ways without Cfz induced general phenomena of the antianabolic or catabolic type, affecting characteristically the Hyp, which was low after administration of cortisone and increased after T3; association of Cfz to both cortisone and T3 had general protecting and corrective effects and brought Hyp towards or at normal values. Chronic administration of MTU with or without Cfz did not have significant effects. The corrective value of Cfz by anabolic and anti-catabolic actions on collagen metabolism disturbed by cortisone or T3 in excess is discussed.

Somatotyping in the obese children and adolescents.

Age-related somatic variability studied by 15 anthropometric parameters was assessed in 278 subjects (138 boys and 140 girls) aged between 5 and 20 years. Of these, 30% had simple obesity, 10.0% obesity associated with hypothyroidism, 10.0% obesity with diabetes, 25% obesity with adrenocortical reaction, 23.5% functional adiposo-genital syndrome and 1.5% Cushing's syndrome. The peculiarities related to the somatic development as a whole, the degree of bone development, and adiposity are interpreted in the main clinical forms of obesity, on the basis of the morphogram.

Epidemioligical particularities of influenza outbreaks in a town of Romania during 1975.

Results are presented of the complex epidemiological influenza surveillance in a large town of Romania during 1975. The comprehensive and unitary methodology including systematic laboratory, clinical and epidemiological investigations supplied data on the influenza type A outbreak recorded during the first term of 1975. The factors of importance for epidemiological prognosis -- seroepidemiological indicators of the immunological profile of the population according to age groups, serodiagnostic and virological investigation clinically diagnosed influenza cases, complex epidemiological surveys in representative foci, study of the antigenic structure of the influenza strains isolated -- are outlined. The importance of a continuous, complex influenza surveillance for the differential orientation of prophylaxis and control steps is emphasized.

Mixed tumor: mucinous papillary cystadenocarcinoma associated with arrhenoblastoma.

A case of a 41-year old woman with an enlargement of the inferior part of the abdomen is presented. An echographic examination established the diagnosis of a right ovarian cyst. During the operation, a 14-cm (5 1/2") tumor, presenting a large ruptured cyst and solid mass, was found. From the cystic activity, a viscous fluid was oozing. On the left ovary, a 4 cm (1 1/2") cyst was also found. Within this case report, we underline the unusual association of a mucinous papillary cystadenocarcinoma with an arrhenoblastoma in the right ovary together with the presence of an cystadenoma in the left ovary.
