The recently established culture medium, GIT, is applicable to many kinds of cells including mouse and human myeloma cells, and most adhesive cell lines. We applied this GIT medium to mouse B cell hybridoma production. When the medium was used to propagate myeloma cells before cell fusion and also for HAT selective medium, the fusion efficiency was more than twice as high as when the regular medium (RPMI-1640 supplemented with FBS) was used. Constantly more than 80% wells were hybridoma positive irrespective of the antigens used. To determine the optimal cell concentration at the hybridoma selection, a graded number of myeloma and spleen cells was distributed to each well; the best result was obtained when 3 X 10(4) myeloma and 3 X 10(5) spleen cells were distributed to each well. In addition, the GIT medium shows very little lot-to-lot variation. These results indicate that fusion efficiency in mouse B cell hybridoma production was greatly improved by using GIT medium.
The enzyme activities involved in the transamination of L-cysteine sulfinate (L-alanine 3-sulfinic acid), L-aspartate and L-cysteine were examined in fetal, neonatal and maternal rat liver and placenta. In fetal and neonatal rat liver, aminotransferase activity was most active with L-cysteine sulfinate as a substrate and was also active with L-aspartate, while activity with L-cysteine was very low. The activity of transamination of L-cysteine sulfinate in rat liver developed in parallel with that of L-aspartate and L-cysteine. The aminotransferase activity markedly increased after the 19th day of gestation, reaching the same value as adult liver on the 3rd day after birth. The ratios of transamination of L-cysteine sulfinate to that of L-aspartate and to that of L-cysteine were constant during development. These observations suggest that L-cysteine sulfinate, L-aspartate and L-cysteine are transaminated by the same enzyme in the rat liver during development. Since placental aminotransferase activity was extremely low compared with that of the liver, it was suggested that the placenta did not play an important role in the transamination of these amino acids during pregnancy.

To assess the relationships between patterns of left ventricular hypertrophy and giant negative T waves (greater than 15 mm, GNT), 24 patients with GNT were categorized in two groups: Group A consisted of 12 patients with GNP but without left ventricular hypertrophy (greater than 13 mm at the chorda level of the interventricular septum and/or left ventricular posterior wall by UCG, LVH); and group-B consisted of 12 patients with GNT and LVH. Twelve patients with LVH but no GNT compromised as group-C. Left ventriculography (LVG) was performed, and left ventricular mass (LVM) and apical hypertrophy were assessed by CT. The configurations of the end-diastolic left ventricle by LVG (RAO 30 degrees) were as follows, by group: A: spade in eight patients and papillary muscle hypertrophy (PMH) shape in four. B: spade in five, PMH in four, banana in one and oval in two. C: banana in nine and oval in three. The LVM (g/BSAm2) were as follows; A: 121.5 +/- 14.9, B: 130.5 +/- 14.8, C: 190.6 +/- 42.1 (C greater than A, B, p less than 0.001). The apex/base ratios calculated by CT were as follows; A: 1.43 +/- 0.31, B: 1.21 +/- 0.19, C: 1.09 +/- 0.20 (C greater than A, p less than 0.05). The left ventricular mass in patients with GNT was less than that of those without GNT. Giant negative T waves were most often associated with apical hypertrophy.

TERUMO guide wire was used for treatment of urinary tract diseases in 30 cases of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, 35 cases of transurethral retrieval for ureteral stones and one case each of stricture of uretero-ileal junction with a ureteral stone, urethral stricture after mechanical instrumentation, and cystic dilatation of terminal seminal duct with hematospermia. The advantages of the use of TERUMO guide wire in the urinary tract are described. The rigid stem wire with a floppy terminal portion is superior to other types of guide wires concerning flexibility, elasticity, degree of sliding and maneuverability.
