[Gastric secretion in diabetes].

Gastric secretion was investigated in 26 patients, mainly with mature age diabetes and mixed type after a maximal stimulation with pentagastrin (6 microgram/kg). No significant difference was established as compared with the healthy subjects. Hypo- and achlorhydria were found in 19.2 per cent of the patients and hyperchlorhydria in 15.4 per cent. Diabetes duration over 5 years, hyperglycemia over 200 mg%, late degenerative syndrome and insulin treatment reduce significantly the majority of the indices of gastric secretion.

[Study of the clinical and biochemical indices in experimental chronic copper poisoning in sheep].

Induced was chronic copper poisoning in sheep treated orally with copper sulphate. Investigated was the dynamics of some of the clinical picture aspects, the paraclinical behaviour, and the toxicogenesis of poisoning. The disease manifested a three-phase course. The hemolytic crisis at various liver levels of copper within therange of from 315 up to 840.5 mg/kg was due to the challenging role of additional factors, such as pregnancy, lambing, lactation and individual sensitivity. During pregnancy copper was found to pass though the placenta, accumulating in the liver of the fetus. Copper deposition in the liver lobes varied. The quantitative determination of liver copper requires the investigation of pool samples.

[Production and testing of a live lyophilized bivalent vaccine against Aujeszky's disease and erysipelas in swine].

A live freeze-dried bivaccine against swine erysipelas and Aujeszky's disease in pigs was produced, its antigen titers reaching 10(8) and 10(4.67) for the two components, respectively. The immunity conferred to the vaccinated pigs (so far as Aujeszky's disease is concerned) had an antibody titer of 1:4, and in sheep the titer was up to 1:16, these animals showing resistance at a control infection with 5000 LD50 per head. The vaccinated pigs likewise withstood a control infection with a mixed 24-48-hour broth culture of virulent strains causing swine erysipelas.

[Chronic zinc-bacitracin toxicity in chickens].

The administration of zink-bacitracin, mainly bacipharmin, at rates of 300 mg per kg with the feed did not produce toxic effects in birds: there were no changes in the general condition and the blood picture, the activity of SGPT and SGOT, the blood level of sugar, and the microstructure of the viscera over a period of 90 days. However, doses of 1000 mg/kg of the preparation given with the feed to chickens led to sporadic cases of slightly expressed karyopycnosis in the renal tubules. Established was a growth-stimulating effect. By the end of the experimental period the relaive weight of the adrenal glands, kidneys, liver, and heart in the treated birds was lower in most of the cases as compared with the weight of the same organs in the control birds.

[Level of viral antibodies in normal and specific swine and bovine gamma globulin preparations].

Studied were 15 series of normal bovine gamma-globulin, 5 series of normal swine gamma-globulin, 7 series of Aujeszky gamma-globulin, 6 series of specific gamma-globulin against edema disease of pigs, 4 series of specific gamma-globulin against paratyphus, 5 series of Mixoglobulin-70, and one series of swine poly-globulin. All series of gamma-globulin preparations were studied for the presence of antibodies against Mixovirus parainfluenza-3 through the hemagglutinationinhibition reaction, antibodies against adenoviruses through the precipitation reaction in agar gel, and antibodies against the virus of Aujeszky's disease through the virus-neutralization reaction in tissue cultures.
