[A case report of asynchronous bilateral non-specific segmental ureteritis].

A case of asynchronous bilateral non-specific segmental ureteritis is presented. The preoperative evaluations for this lesion were considered extremely important, because the radiological and operative findings of this disease are similar to those of ureteral cancer. This lesion has the possibility of multiplicity, especially bilateral occurrence. Conservative management of the kidney should be performed.

[Detection of circulating immune complexes by polyethyleneglycol precipitations complement consumption test in urological malignant diseases].

Circulating immune complexes (CIC) were detected and quantitated in 49 patients with urological malignant diseases (9 cases of renal cell cancer, 3 cases of renal pelvic and ureter cancer, 21 cases of bladder cancer and 16 cases of prostatic cancer), 9 patients with urological benign diseases and in normal subjects by the polyethylene-glycol precipitation complement consumption test (PEG-CC test). The average CIC level was 2.7 +/- 3.0% in 18 normal subjects and the normal range was less than 10% of the CIC level. CIC level of patients with renal cell cancer was 14.3 +/- 20.1%, being elevated in 3 of the 9 patients, that of patients with renal pelvic and ureter cancer was 4.7 +/- 4.6%, being within the normal range in 3 cases, that of patients with bladder cancer was 4.7 +/- 4.4%, being elevated in 1 of 21 patients, and that of patients with prostatic cancer was 8.9 +/- 15.4%, being elevated in 3 of 16 patients. In urological malignant diseases such as renal cell cancer and prostatic cancer the CIC values were relatively high.

Phenotypic changes induced by a novel benzophenone derivative and resultant suppression of cell proliferation in the human thymic acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line HPB-ALL.

A novel benzophenone derivative, 2-(2-benzoyl-4-chlorophenoxy)-N-methylpropionamide (Ch-13), induced phenotypic differentiation linked to the inhibition of cell proliferation in human thymic acute lymphoblastic leukemia cell line HPB-ALL cells. The Ch-13-induced morphological changes consist of a decrease in cell size, nucleolar disappearance, and an alteration in the chromatin distribution, resembling large or atypical lymphocytes. Treatment with Ch-13 brought about a remarkable reduction in OKT6-, OKT4/Leu3a-, and OKT9-positive cells. At the optimal differentiation-inducing dose (5 X 10(-5)M), Ch-13 inhibited the cell proliferation, de novo DNA synthesis, and specific antibody-induced cell surface antigen capping.

Transfer of antibiotics into maternal milk.

Thirty antibiotics, including penicillins, cephems, chloramphenicol, tetracyclines, macrolides, and aminoglycosides, were given p.o., i.m. or i.v. once to 70 puerperal women to compare milk drug levels with serum levels over a 6-h period. Antibiotic transfer into the milk was small. No drugs except for a few (chloramphenicol, tetracyclines, macrolides) reached the level of 1 mcg/ml or greater. Penicillins and cephams detected in trace amounts in the milk are likely to have little effect on infants.
