Results obtained with combination therapy of VM-26, natulan and prednisolone in generalized Hodgkin's disease.

By evaluating the results obtained in 50 patients the authors stated that VM-26 given in combination with Natulan and Prednisolone is a drug of value in the therapy of generalized Hodgkin's disease. It cause milder side effects than drugs previously used in combination therapy. Complete or partial remissions were obtained in 84% of patients treated. 75% of the therapy-resistant cases proved to be Hodgkin's sarcoma by the postmortem examination. Remission lasted longer in stage III than in stage IV and the previously untreated patients responded better than the treated one. Definite correlation could not be revealed between histologic type and duration of remission.

Perspectives in scintigraphic detection of gynecologic tumors using labeled estrogen.

After having succeeded in imaging the prostate with 131I-Estracyt in our former experiments we tried to use the same method for scanning gynecological tumors. In about fifty per cent of the patients (34 cases) there was a convenient accumulation of the labeled estrogen, first of all the adenoid tumors, myomas of uteri and carcinomas can take up this radiopharmacon. Though the number of cases is rather low it is to be concluded that tumors of hormonal dependence can be scanned using estrogen hormon. Further investigations are in progress.

[Investigation on radiosensitizing and tumor inhibiting actions of the antioxidant MTDQ (6,6'-methylen-bis/2,2,4-trimethyl-1-1,2-dihydroquinolin) (author's transl)].

Unlike the hitherto known antioxidants, MTDQ is not a radiation protective-but a radiation sensitizing agent. According to autoradiographic findings accumulation of 14C-labelled MTDQ occurs in tumor tissue. The compound was found to be suitable in the combined treatment (MTDQ and 300 R x-ray therapy). In these instances tumor weight of solid Ehrlich- and Yoshida-tumors will be reduced even by doses ineffective as monotherapy. The MTDQ pretreatment of NKLy ascites tumorbearing rats raised survival rat by 60 to 90 per cent (controls 20%) and inhibited growth of solid Yoshida-tumors. No side-effects have been observed. In contrast to other antineoplastic agents MTDQ does not induce granulocytopenia.

Investigation of 17-ketosteriod excretion in mastopathia and premenopausal breast cancer.

Measurement of the excretion of total 17-ketosteroids, androsterone, etiocholanolone, and dehydroepiandrosterone demonstrate in contrast to the well known age dependency of normal women in cases of both mastopathia and breast cancer the following results: 1. the age dependence of the 17-ketosteriod excretion is not marked; 2. the total 17-ketosteroid excretion is lower than that of normal controls, 3. the values of the etiocholanolone excretions and that of the dehydroepiandrosterone excretions are similarly lower.
