The present study, realized in a psychiatric emergency service, discusses the evaluation of nursing notes as one of the aspects which reflect the quality of nursing care. Analysing the results, we found that the note is commonly make by personnel less qualified of the nursing staff. By the analysis of their contents, we found that these notes, made this way, have made little contributions to evaluate the state of the patient. We also verified that it is necessary to train the auxiliary nursing personnel, not only in behalf of the notes, but also for the complete care of the mentally ill in emergency situations.
