A total of 1440 patients with the diagnosis "mandibular joint complaints" were referred to the Out-Patient Clinic for Dental Prosthetics between 1974 and the first half of 1979. A clinical functional analysis (Krogh-Poulsen) was used to examine 1114 of these patients. The number of women patients (73%) was impressively high. The myoarthropathies appeared most frequently between the twentieth and the fortieth year of life. Complaints had been present for at least one year prior to referral in 44% of the patients. Tenderness of the pterygoideus muscle at clinical examination was observed most frequently. Treatment with a biteplate brought relief from complaints in 82% of the patients.

A modified Krogh-Poulsen questionaire was used to study 210 patients with temperomandibular joint complaints. The patients were fitted with a biteplate. Pain at the pterygoideus lateralis muscle was noted in 59.6% of the patients. Constant improvement was demonstrable in 76% of the patients after a period of six months. The cracking in the joint was found in 51% of the patients resistant to therapy. The study of patients resistant to therapy indicated positive psychiatric findings in more than 80% of these patients. The diagnoses ranged from the beginning stages of depression to discovery of a basophilic adenoma.
The microbial plaques retained in the unphysiological space between oral mucosa and denture base in case of unsatisfactory denture cleaning are always an inflammation factor that is of particular importance from the viewpoints of pathogenesis and therapy. The described denture hygiene index has been developed for the objective evaluation of denture uncleanliness and of the efficacy of hygiene measures.

Thirty-five patients with meningiomas were compared with 37 patients with astrocytomas with respect to the postoperative course of their ICP and elastance. In the case of the meningioma patients, the ICP increased on average over a longer period and achieved higher values than in the astrocytoma patients. In the first group, the elastance attained values that were three times as high as in the second group. There was no fixed relationship between pressure and elastance in the two groups of patients.
In 5 trials using a total of 5,7000 geese (Deutsche Legegans maleXWhite Italian Goose female) of which 482 were slaughtered and subsequently dressed, the influence of varying net energy and crude protein levels in the ration on fattening and carcass performance were studied. Increased crude protein contents were found to improve the meat yield. High-energy feeding likewise caused gains to go up, the extra gain almost exclusively consisting in adipose tissue (particularly skin, and intestinal and abdominal fat). In addition, high energy intakes induced earlier juvenile moulting, this effect making the 56-day old carcasses rather bristly. Therefore, it seems more convenient to fatten geese on low-energy rations (500 energetic feed equivalents/poultry [EFp] per kg) up to the age of 63 days because the meat yield (especially of breast meat) is likely to improve considerably when slaughter takes place at a later date. Goose fattening rations should stick to the following parameters (per kg): 500--550 EFp, 160--180 g crude protein, 8 g lysine, 6.5 g thio-amino acids.
The therapy of denture sore mouth which is induced by Candida albicans must take its bearings about the general and local disposition factors. The crucial points of stomatological treatment are pointed to. The problems related to local antimycotic therapy in the oral cavity are discussed. A new antimycotic dosage form, the nystatin-gelatin foil, for local application in denture wearers in presented. Its dosage and its use are described.
The authors describe the formula and the manufacture of nystatin-gelatin foils that are a new dosage form for local application in case of denture sore mouth induced by Candida albicans. It is pointed to the requirements that a pharmaceutically used gelatin should meet. Furthermore, the authors discuss biopharmaceutical aspects of the nystatin-gelatin foil.

2 types of chick rations were fed to 8100 birds. A commercial type of food prepared on the basis of state-controlled standard formulas was used as control ration. The experimental food contained 84% of wheat; the proportion of protein feed in this ration had been reduced by 30%. The chick period was taken to last 8 weeks (controls and half of the experimental groups) or 12 weeks. Until the age of 8 weeks the growth rate of the control birds was by no means better than that of the experimental chicks (8.6 and 8.3 g per bird/day) although the control birds consumed more food (but same level of EFh consumption). At the age of 8 weeks the experimental birds were adjusted to a type of food fed to young hens. The apparently stress-induced lower level of food consumption of the experimental chicks in the period between the 9th and 12th week decreased the rate of weight gains and affected the whole analysis of data for the entire chick period ranging from 0 to 12 weeks (9.0 g per bird per day as compared to 9.6 g). This difference was compensated for in the further course of rearing. No significant differences in the demands for food, energy and crude protein were noticed until the age of 8 weeks. The mortality rates were the same in both groups (2.4% and 3.1%, alphaless than0.05). With regard to the criteria investigated the two rations appear to be equivalent. The 30% decrease in the proportion of protein feed may be regarded as being justified.
