[Hysterical manifestations in Black Africa. Pilot study conducted at the Neuro-Psycho-Pathology Center, Kinshasa].
In a retrospective study on twenty Zairese patients, presenting a hysterical personality structure, the different forms of decompensation have been described and classified according to the DSM III criteria. Even taking into account the inconstancy of hysterical manifestations and the use of criteria not adapted to the local context, some of the described syndromes seem rather atypical. Such findings should stimulate the African psychiatry to develop its own nosographical criteria.

Body image boundary definiteness and psychopathology.
In an attempt to clarify the relation between body image boundary definiteness and psychopathology, the hypothesis that at each level of psychic adaptation groups with stronger and groups with weaker body image boundaries should be found, is examined. The hypothesis that hysterics as well as nonparanoid schizophrenics would have weaker, whereas obsessive compulsives and paranoid schizophrenics would have stronger body image boundaries receives only indirect empirical support. A short theoretical discussion is presented.

[Rehabilitation of chronic psychiatric patients. Description of a program and follow-up of 89 patients transfered to rest homes].
The reevaluation of the existence and function of the psychiatric hospital increases the problem presented by chronic patients. This study analyses the outcome of 89 chronic psychiatric patients transfered in rest homes. Is this alternative extramural solution for chronic hospitalization disirable? If yes, under which conditions? The favorable results of our survey have confirmed our basis hypothesis: all these patients do not need care structured on hospitalization.
