Occupational scabies.

A localised epidemic of scabies lasting nearly a year occurred among crews on river pleasure craft. There was a sharp contrast between the paucity of scabietic lesions, especially burrows, and an unusually high infectivity. Scarcely a crew member was free from itching, yet individually diagnosis proved extremely difficult.

Irritant dermatitis during the relining of a blast furnace.

An outbreak of dermatitis is reported amongst steel erectors, platers and welders working on the relining of a blast furnace. Evidence is produced for regarding this as an occupational primary irritant contact dermatitis.

Relapse of chromate dermatitis from sheet metal.

Galvanised sheet metal has previously been described as a source of chromate dermatitis (Fregert et al. 1970). We report a patient who appears to have been sensitised many years previously by an entirely different source of chromate, but whose resulting hand eczema has relapsed while handling galvanised sheet metal at work.

Chromate dermatitis from a boiler lining.

Chromate dermatitis is described in a mechanical fitter working inside boiler combustion chambers. A source of hexavalent chromate is traced to the action of the heat and alkaline fuel ash on trivalent chrome ore in parts of the refractory lining. Removal of the patient from this contact has resulted in almost complete clearing of his dermatitis, without any relapse, during a 9-month follow-up period.

Atypical ichthyosiform erythrodernam deafness and keratitis. A report of two cases.

Two patients with ichthyosiform erythroderma of the same unusual but characteristic distribution are described. Both patients were born with perceptive deafness and developed severe vascularizing keratitis in early childhood. There is no family history of the disorder in either case. This syndrome is discussed in relation to previous reports of atypical ichthyosiform erythroderma associated with deafness.
