[Action of herbicide "Atrazine" on thymus and bursa in chickens].

Changes were induced in the central lymphatic organs of chicken which had been given 150 ppm "Atrazin" in their rations over 21 days, beginning with the third day of age. The substance did not produce toxic phenomena. Thymus and bursa fabricii weights went up in parallel with the glycogen levels of those organs, after 15 days of feeding. Normalisation occurred on the 21st day of treatment and was more conspicuous on the thymus than on the bursa.

[The effect of various organochlorine pesticides on the immunologic reactivity of the white rat].

Wistar rats, aged 30 and 90 days, received Aldrin and Lindan treatment (8 ppm or 11 ppm) over 60 days, followed by inoculation of E. coli. The capacity of antibody formation was changed but not inhibited. Functional disorders occurred in the thymus (decline of nucleic acids), adrenal gland (decline of Vitamin C), and in the protein synthesis. The toxicity of even smaller Aldrin doses obviously was stronger than that of Lindan. The toxicity of either substance to younger animals was stronger than to individuals in more advanced age.

[Changes of some metabolic parameters of the liver in chickens under the influence of Entomoxan].

From the 3rd week of life Studler-Cornish-breed chickens received a food mixed with Entomoxan (15 ppm HCH-gamma-Isomer in the food) for an 8 weeks period. 2,4,6, and 8 weeks after the beginning of the experiment livers of the chickens were examined for RNA-, DNA-, total protein- and total aminonitrogen contents. The RNA-values decrease constantly where as those of DNA increase up to the 4th week and after that decline. Total protein contents rise up to the 4th week. After 2 and 8 weeks the contents of amino-nitrogen are lower in experimental birds than in controls.

[Effect of Mecadox therapy on various organs of the reticulohistiocytary system in chickens].

Chickens received Mecadox treatment for 28 days, beginning at the age of five days, with the daily rations having been 1 g in 1 kg feedstuff. Changes were caused in two periods. The first therapeutic period, first to 14th days, was characterised by rise in total protein, DNA, RNA, amino nitrogen, and ascorbic acid in the adrenal gland as well as by rise in body mass, however, with no change of thymus and bursa mass. The second therapeutic period, between the 14th and 28 th days, led to decline in the above parameters and to involution of the lymphatic organs. The conclusion is suggested that biological stimulation can be achieved only in response to short-time Mecadox treatment.
