[Malignant bone tumours in childhood (author's transl)].

Of the malignant bone tumors that occur in childhood, chondrosarcoma, osteosarcoma, and Ewing's sarcoma are of special interest with regard to therapeutic approach. Whereas in chondrosarcoma radical surgery is the treatment of choice, due to its resistance to radiation, the most efficient treatment for osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma has not yet been clearly defined. In the light of recepnt developments, delayed surgery following initial radiation in osteosarcoma, as advocated by Cade in 1947, has now been superseded by immediate amputation. In Ewing's sarcoma, radiation appears to be superior to surgical intervention, according to recent publications.

[Renal sarcoma in neonates (author's transl)].

UNLABELLED: Sarcoma of the kidney is rare. Report on a neonate aged 9 days with highly differentiated leiomyosarcoma of the right kidney. Diagnosis certain only histologically. DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS: nephroblastoma, renal carcinoma, neuroblastoma, thrombosis of renal vein, hydronephrosis or cystic kidneys.

[Delayed diagnosis of congenital membranous stenosis of the duodenum (author's transl)].

A 12 year old boy with Down's syndrome is described who had a congenital membranous duodenal stenosis. Although the boy had been vomiting from birth and normal feeding was impossible, the diagnosis was made only at the age of 6 years when radiographs were taken because he had swallowed foreign bodies. The malformation was not suspected and no treatment undertaken. Because vomiting increased he was admitted at the age of 12 years to a department for surgical pediatrics. At operation stenosis of the duodenum was confirmed, some coins were removed which had settled proximal to it, the membrane was excised and the duodenum, plit longitudinally, sutured transversely. The postoperative course was smooth and now the boy is very fit.

[The juvenile bone cyst. Diagnosis, therapy and late results. Report about 60 cases (author's transl)].

60 patients were operated for a solitary bone cyst during a 20 years period. In about 50% the patients were between 8 and 14 years old. The quotient male to female was 2:1. In 65% the cyst was located in the femur and humerus. The therapy was in 43 patients autoplasty, in 8 cases heterotransplantation--"Kieler Span", in the other cases resections were carried out. The follow-up study covered 41 patients. The results were excellent in 50%, sufficient in 36%, poor in 12%. The best results were achieved with autoplasty bone chips. Among 43 cases 1 recurrency.
