Assertiveness is an individual function which allows adaptation to social interaction. It needs an heterogeneous psychological processus using behavioral, cognitive and emotional components in its expression. Dysfunction in assertiveness contributes to anxious, depressive and personality disorders, representing a frequent impairment for patients. Assertiveness was measured in a population of patients with anxious disorders (n = 33) without concomitant major depression. Rathus Assertiveness Schedule was used for the clinical evaluation, Beck Depression Inventory, Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and Coopersmith Inventory was also used for clinical measure of depression, anxiety and self-esteem. Global score to Rathus Assertiveness, correlated no specifically with all the others emotional factors. This multidimensional function would benefit to a more discriminant approach, measuring first behavioral and cognitive skills employed in social adaptation and secondly the emotional component of the processus.

[Measurement of basal plasma levels of 3 anterior pituitary hormones during acute or chronic treatment with tricyclic antidepressants].

Prolactin, growth hormone and thyrotropin plasma levels have been evaluated in depressive in-patients, either during the first day of clomipramine or amitriptyline treatment, or after their chronic administration. Prolactin levels temporary rise during the first day of clomipramine or amitriptyline treatment in 6 patients out of 11, with a lag in relation to the drug plasma peak. A significant increase is observed after a 28 days treatment with clomipramine and a non significant decrease, after a 28 days treatment with amitriptyline. As for human growth hormone, a rise is found in 5 out of 8 clomipramine treated subjects but neither any variation with amitriptyline nor any significant variation with chronic administration of both drugs occur. Finally, thyrotropin plasma levels display no variation after acute or prolonged treatment with clomipramine or amitriptyline. These results are compared with those of literature, then discussed in the light of present theories on pituitary hormones secretion aminergic control and of tricyclic antidepressants effect on these hormones.

[Narcissism in literature].

To write or not to write about himself, that is the first question of this study. But, there are many ways for narcissism in literature. Some authors are curious adventurous; others are withdrawn into silence. The narcissism can be sentimental, sexual and then necessary to obtain stability. The defence of personality is also the goal of other narcissisms like painful and dying narcissisms. Intellectual narcissism is the more lucid. André Gide, Maurice Barrès, Henry Miller, Fritz Zorn, Paul Valéry are some of the examples chosen to illustrate this critical analysis of the literary narcissism. Finally, it should be difficult to be a productive artist without narcissism.

[Semantic interference and pathological anxiety: experimental approach in generalized anxiety].

Patients with D.S.M. III-R generalized anxiety disorder and normal controls performed a computerized Stroop color naming-task in which they named colors of threat-related, positive and neutral words. Compared to controls, generalized anxious patients revealed a longer response latency for threat-related words, without correlation with anxious measures on Spielberger State-Trait Anxiety Inventory. In normal control group, response delay to emotional words was correlated to anxious score on STAI-Trait. There was no difference between the two groups in a recognition memory task. The results suggest existence of different semantic interference in categorical and normal anxiety, without implication of explicit memory.
