[Germ cell tumours in gonadal dysgenesis (author's transl)].

In a 17-year-old patient gonadal dysgenesis with a XY-karyotype was diagnosed by laparoscopy and chromosomal analysis. Two years later, the patient came again to the hospital because of a large tumour which proved to be a dysgerminoma. Except dysgerminomas, other germ cell tumours are also found in gonadal dysgenesis, for example gonadoblastomas, which consist of germinal cells, Sertoli-granulosa-cells and interstitial cells. In most cases of gonadal dysgenesis with a germ cell tumour a Y-chromosome is present. The risk of a gonadal tumour in such cases is estimated to be 25%. In gonadal dysgenesis with a Y-chromosome a prophylactic extirpation of the gonads is necessary, which should be combined with a hysterectomy.

Cytophotometric studies on the reaction kinetics of acid phosphatase in motoneurons marked by injection of Evans blue into the soleus muscle of the mouse.

Evans blue was injected into the soleus muscle of albino mice in order to mark retrogradely the corresponding motoneurons of the spinal cord. Subsequently, reaction kinetics of acid phosphatase were studied in the marked nerve cells. 41-51 motoneurons per animal were counted. They are located in the dorsolateral portion of the Rexed zone IX where they form motor cell columns approximately 1.5 mm in length. After identification of the motoneurons, the enzyme reaction for acid phosphatase was performed by covering the section with a gel film containing naphthol-AS-BI-phosphate-hexazonium-pararosanilin. The formation of the azo dye was measured cytophotometrically at 520 nm. During the first 10 min of registration, a linear decrease in transmission of 0.4 per cent/min was shown. Because of the unimodal distribution of changes in transmission, the motoneurons of the soleus muscle could not be characterized as fast or slow types on the basis of the reaction kinetics of acid phosphatase.

[Pharmacokinetic of piracetam during labour influence to acid-base-status in maternal and fetal blood (author's transl)].

PIRACETAM concentrations in fetal and maternal blood were measured during the first and second stage of labor and the elimination in maternal and fetal blood was studied. Fetal heart-rate, pH- and base-excess of the maternal and fetal blood were investigated to evaluate the influence of PIRACETAM on the acid-base-status of mother and child. PIRACETAM was administered intravenously to 43 patients in a dosage 2 g, 4 g and 6 g. The concentration in the maternal and fetal plasma was measured by gaschromatography. Before and after the injection of PIRACETAM and at delivery, blood was sampled from the mother's earlobe and the umbilical artery and vein, respectively. The results were compared with a control group. There was an exponential fall of PIRACETAM concentration in maternal and fetal blood. Maternal and fetal elimination half-life of PIRACETAM was about 112-98 minutes and 200 minutes, respectively. A fairly good correlation between the concentration of PIRACETAM in maternal and fetal blood was found. The fetal PIRACETAM concentration was about 50% below the maternal values. Fetal heart-rate, maternal and fetal pH- and base-excess-values were not significantly altered following PIRACETAM infusion. It may be concluded, that there exists a transfer of PIRACETAM across the placental barrier. However, the cytoprotective effect of PIRACETAM, as described in animal observations and by investigations in human, could not be verified by the methods and technology used in this study.

201Thallium scintigraphy--a new method for radionuclide imaging of the uterus.

A new radionuclide method for uterus imaging is described. After intravenous application of 201Tl chloride the myometrium can be displayed by means of a gamma camera and a small digital computer. Early results suggest that Tl accumulation by the uterus depends on its histopathologic structure. After intra-uterine injection of 133Xe in saline demarcation between myometrium and uterine cavity is possible.

[Qualitative and quantitative studies on the corpus geniculatum laterale (Cgl) of the laboratory rat. IV. Qualitative structure analysis of the pars dorsalis an on India-ink-injected Nissl preparation].

1. The histological organization of the rat dorsal lateral geniculate nucleus (Cgld) has been analysed in Nissl-preparations following vessel injection with india ink. 2. The findings have been collected by means of a non-automatically visual scanning method. Every point is defined by 3 coordinates. 3. Different parameters have been collected in every point: the number of the 5 structural elements of the nervous tissue (neurons, fragments of capillaries, nuclei of astrocytes, oligodendrocytes and microglia) and the hit points per structural element. 4. In addition the differentiation of about 15500 neurons in relay neurons and interneurons has been carried out. The ratio of the 2 types of neurons is about 14:1. 5. The collected values have been statistically analysed by correlation, regression and discriminatory analyses. 6. The results relate to the correlation between the structural elements and the rostrocaudal, lateromedial and ventrodorsal directions as well as the structural elements with another. 7. At 5 levels the Cgld has been mapped on the basis of neuron size, neuron density, capillary density, density of the 3 types of glial nuclei and the relative number of hit points per structural element. 8. In the Cgld we distinguish 2 portions regarding the neuron size. The mediocellular portion occupies the lateral, ventral and caudal parts and encloses a magnocellular portion like a coat. 9. The distribution pattern of the interneurons does not correlate with the size of neurons. 10. The capillaries tend to have a greater density in the lateral area of the Cgld. 11. The correlation and regression coefficientes and the distribution pattern of the astrocytes and oligodendrocytes suggest that both glial types show a reciproke ratio in the Cgld. 12. The distribution pattern of the microglia is relatively uniform. 13. Mapping the Cgld we have got a model conception of its structural condition corresponding with the common mammalian scheme. 14. By the discriminatory analysis zones of input and fields of projection have been discriminated. It was possible to discriminate the ipsi- and contralateral input zones, but not the binocular and monocular projection fields. 15. The discriminatory analysis allows to show the collective biological effect of all structural elements in a uniform mathematical value.
