[The special relations of malignant skin lymphomas to the epidermis and to the epidermal appendages (author's transl)].

Epitheliotropia of malignant skin lymphomas is an unexplained phenomenon which equally affects epidermis and ectodermal appendages. This phenomenon is found especially in tumours of probable T-cell origin. However it can also be observed in B-cell lymphomas (immunocytomas) and is therefore not an exact criterium for the biological origin of a lymphoma. In the case of germinal center tumors we could not find evidence of epitheliotropia. An active invasion of neoplastic cellular infiltrate into the epithelium must be differentiated from the phenomenons caused by passive pressure, resulting from the expansion of the tumor. However, one has to remember that epitheliotropic malignant lymphomas invade the epidermis in all stages of development. It is shown, that Pautrier microabscesses are only a special non specific aspect of epidermotropia.

The influence of synthetic corticoids on the isolated vas deferens of the rat.

The influence of corticosteroids on the tone of isolated smooth muscle (vas deferens of the rat) is reported. Corticoids alone are without effect on the muscle tone, but they potentiate the constrictor effect of catecholamines. Fluorinated synthetic steroids exhibit a more pronounced effect than non-halogenated ones.

Modification of experimental UV erythema by external steroids--a reflex photometric study.

A method for reflex photometric detection of the modification of a model of inflammation (UV erythema) by external corticoids is presented. The steroids which most effectively suppress erythema formation are those which have the strongest vasoconstrictor potency also on unchanged skin. A tachyphylaxis phenomenon can also be demonstrated after several applications of a synthetic steroid to the inflammation model.

Adrenal Cortex Hormones↗

Results of reflex photometric determinations of vasoconstriction after topical steroid application. Tachyphylaxis, relative and absolute refractory phase after single and multiple application of steroid.

After a repeated intensive topical application (4-h rhythm), there it is phase already after 28 h in which the cutaneous vessels are insensitive (refractory) to constrictor stimuli due to steroids. This refractory phase lasts for at least 68 h. A single local application of steroid likewise leads to a diminished vasoreactivity for a limited time. The relative refractory phase is limited to 96 h under the given experimental conditions.

[Histology of skin changes caused by external corticoid preparations].

Skin changes produced in 70 persons by prolonged topical application of corticosteroids were studied with light microscopy. Epidermal atrophy, alterations of the skin adnexa and changes in the dermal tissue are characterizing the so called corticosteroid-skin. It is suggested that the changes are dependent as well on duration and intensity of the corticosteroid treatment, as on individual factors.

[Fibrous papules of the nose--a clinical and histologic entity?].

Twelve patients with 19 fibrous papules of the nose were studied. Usually the papules appear domeshaped and are flesh colored or reddish-brown. The majority of the lesions are asymptomatic and firm, a few of them are soft. The microscopic changes of the fibrous papules of the nose were usually those of fibromas or angiofibromas with increased cellularity of the upper parts of the cutis. The cell shape varied greatly and included dendritic, stellated and strap-shaped forms as well as multinucleated giant cells, similar to those of juvenile melanomatas. It is considered that the fibrous papule of the nose is a special form of regressive nevus cells.

Utilization of acrylate-embedded large tissue samples in dermatohistology.

A method of embedding tissue in synthetic material which has seldom been used in dermatohistology is described in this communication. This process combines the preparative advantage of slight artifactual alteration of organic tissue and readily reproducible sections between 1 and 3 mu in thickness with the feature of light microscopy that tissue slices of "normal" dimensions can be prepared without difficulty. It avoids the disadvantages of the small dimensions of the preparations required for the ultramicroscope. With few exceptions, all staining methods applied to paraffin slices can also be used.

Histological Techniques↗

[Reflexphotometric determinations of vasoconstriction after topical application of steroids. IV. Time slope of vasoconstriction and reactive vasodilatation (author's transl)].

In this study a reflex photometrical technique has been used to examine local steroid induced vasoreactions. When applied but once, steroids cause a maximum vasoconstriction between 8 and 16 h after beginning the test. Followed by a 32 h period, the phase of vasoconstriction is succeeded by a dilatation of dermis blood vessels. It appears, that the stronger the vasocontriction, the smaller the degree of vasodilatation.

[Reflexphotometric determinations of vasoconstriction after topical application of steroids. V. Vasoconstriction phaenomenon and tachyphylaxis after repeated steroid application (author's transl)].

On the basis of reflexphotometrical vasoconstriction tests it is demonstrated, that the intensity of vasoreactions caused by a first topical application of steroids, diminishes rapidly after repeated applications, until there is no response of vessels to a new application. This phaenomenon is know as tachyphylaxis and has been found in all tested glucocorticoids.

[Hemangioperocytoma in the infant. A histogenetic study].

Two children with hemangiopericytomas are reported-one with a congenital tumor, the second hemangiopericytoma was noticed during the first trimenon. Histologically there was no obvious difference to the hemangiopericytomas in adults. Tumor immaturity should not be seen as a nondifferentiation but as an embryonal immaturity. In analogy to other reticulo-histiocytic proliferations, reticular fibers, shown by silver impregnation, can be demonstrated in both cases. The silver stain should not be over-rated in its diagnostic and prognostic significance.

Facial Neoplasms↗

[Hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia].

This paper reports a family with typical features of hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia (h.e.d.). Although some members of the family showed phenotypical similarities to anhidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, there is no doubt about the classification of this disorder into hidrotic ectodermal dysplasia because of its manifest symptomatology (hypo- and dystrichosis deformity of nails, autosomal-dominant heredity, normal sweating). This suggests that the phenotypical similarities are obvious and important findings of h.e.d.
