[Cefoperazone in combination with metronidazole in the prevention of postoperative infectious complications in patients with genital neoplasms].

Cefoperazone and metronidazole were used for the prevention of postoperative infectious complications in 33 patients (Group 1) with cervical cancer who had undergone the Wertheim operation. 29 patients (Group 2) were treated prophylactically with carbenicillin in the routine doses. Postoperative urinary infections developed in 12.1 and 37.9 per cent of the patients in Groups 1 and 2, respectively. Since the incidence of infectious complications in the patients of Group 1 was lower, the radiation therapy was initiated on an average on day 12.4 +/- 0.4, which was much earlier than in Group 2 (day 15.4 +/- 0.8, p < 0.001). Bacteriological examination of the operation materials from the patients of Group 1 revealed the presence of anaerobes in 64.3 per cent of the patients. The incidence of fever (over 37.8 degrees C) developed irrespective of other signs of an infection significantly correlated with the detection rate of anaerobes in the operation materials (p < 0.05).

[A symmetrical approach to the analysis of cardiocyte electrical and contractile activity].

Based on the systemic symmetrical approach, experimentally determined parameters of action potential and contractile response of frog myocardial strip were analyzed prior to and after the administration of several physiologically active drugs (caffeine, neoepinephrine, nembutal, ouabain) into the perfusate. It was shown that the satisfactory functional state of preparation was characterized by an interrelation between parameters in the form of a harmonic proportion with relatively constant coefficient. When the functional state of subject is affected by a physiologically active substance, the interrelation between the parameters is considerably changed. Based on the analysis of the data of literature, it was found that the interrelation between temporary parameters of action potential in various structures from human heart has the form of a harmonic proportion with a constant coefficient close to the invariant of "Gold Wurf" proportion. The similarity is underlined of principles of cardiac function temporary arrangement at levels of cell, organ and organism.

Action Potentials

[The status of indices of immunity and hemostasis in patients with lung cancer and their changes due to general anesthesia and surgical trauma].

Phagocytosis, some factors of humoral immunity and hemostasis have been studied in cancer patients before and after surgery. Suppression of natural body resistance in the preoperative period, as well as significant inhibition of leukocyte phagocytic activity following surgery and anesthesia have been established. A correlation has been suggested between hemostasis damages in the postoperative period and an elevated IgM concentration.

Anesthesia, General

Probability screening model.

A comparative analysis is given of various types of systems of selecting biologically active substances. A theoretical probability model of tests on chemical compounds for biological activity (screening) has been constructed which permits an evaluation of the efficacy of screening on the basis of fairly reasonable assumptions. It has been shown that this efficacy decreases in time with a fixed number of types of activity taken into consideration and rises sharply with an increase in the number of types of activity of chemical compounds taken into account in the tests.

Drug Evaluation, Preclinical

Criteria for selection of physiologically active substances (pharmacometry under screening conditions).

The problem of quantitative evaluation of the pharmacological influence of physiologically active substances with receptor action on the organism under conditions of screening is discussed. A vector-significant criterion, based on a functional multiparameter method (FMM), is suggested as the basic characteristic of effectiveness of action. This criterion permits an evaluation of the latitude of the permissible physiological effect, the threshold of subtoxicity, and the selectivity of the action of the substance according to the dominant activity.
