A recent series of findings based on psychological test patterns suggests that the behavioral disturbance seen in Ménière disease is, in many instances, predicated on organic cerebral impairment. If this proves to be the case, an important source would have been uncovered that could account for some of the behavioral difficulties associated with Ménière disease. The present study challenges the previous reports, suggesting that these findings emerged because of imprecise methodologic procedures. The results based on our psychological test patterns reject prior conclusions that there is demonstrable evidence for organic cerebral impairment in patients with Ménière disease.

In the limited form of Wegener's granulomatosis pulmonary arteries were pruned and slightly stretched by a cavitating granuloma. Bronchial and renal vasculature were normal. The microscopic focal small vessel changes are not appreciable at angiography. Therefore, angiography is of no value in establishing the diagnosis of Wegener's granulomatosis.
Continuous infusions of glucose (90 min duration) were given into the duodenum (ID), or the portal vein (IP), or a peripheral vein (IV) in conscious dogs, intact dogs, or dogs with portacaval anastomoses. In intact animals ID glucose tolerance was better than IV glucose tolerance, but IP glucose tolerance was not significantly different from IV glucose tolerance. Thus, the superiority of tolerance to ID glucose was not accounted for by relatively high levels of glucose in portal blood. IV glucose tolerance was not significantly affected by protacaval anastomosis with ligation of the portal vein, but ID glucose tolerance was markedly impaired. Disproportionate impairment in tolerance to enterically administered glucose in dogs with portacaval shunts, and the similarity of IP and IV glucose tolerance in intact dogs, suggest that both liver and the gut are important in determination of oral glucose tolerance through mechanisms that have little or no effect on responses to parenterally administered glucose. The results also suggest that the hepatic contribution is not dependent upon portal venous perfusion of the liver, and that a humoral interaction between the gut and the liver is involved which is not simply dependent on endocrine responses of the pancreas.

One hundred isolates from peas, beans, and corn were compared with cultures of Corynebacterium, Microbacterium, and Arthrobacter by use of numerical taxonomic procedures. Six groups (clusters), representing 75% of the isolates, resembled Corynebacteriaceae. There was some doubt regarding the genera represented because the groups were not closely related to many of the known strains. The relationship of the different groups to each other, as well as a number of their properties, is presented.
