[The importance of tetracycline treatment of cervical Chlamydia trachomatis infections: control with cervical smears].

Cervical Chlamydia trachomatis infection is extremely common, crucial and sexually transmitted disease. In order to prevent from this disease an effective treatment is necessary. Tetracycline is an effective antimicrobial medicine for treatment of cervical Chlamydia trachomatis infection. In our study, after we had established the diagnosis of Chlamydia trachomatis on the patient's cervical smear, Tetracycline was used for treatment. In control smear after treatment. Chlamydial intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies and atypical cellular changes which we observed in the first smear were not seen.

[A copro-parasitological study on the wrestlers of the national team].

This copro-parasitological research was made on the 18 wrestlers of the national team in the Talas training camp in Kayseri, The majority of them came to our laboratory with gastro-intestinal complaint such as nausea colicky pains anorexia and dyspepsia and other complaints such as exhaustion and fatigue and 16 of them were found infested with one or more than one parasites. As a result of our coprologic examination finding parasites and their infection rate were: Entamoeba histolytica (50%), Entamoeba coli (16,6%), iodamoeba bütschlii (16,6%), Endolimax nana (11,1%), Giardia lamblia (11,1%), Enteromonas hominis (11,1%) Ascaris lumbricoides (5,5%) and Hymenolepis nana (5,5%). It has been indicated that, 11 of total wrestlers were found infected with one kind, 4 of them were found infected with two kinds and 1 was found infested with three kinds parasites.

Liposuction of the kneecap area under tourniquet: a superdry procedure.

In this paper, we report our experience and describe the technique of liposuction under tourniquet. This technique facilitates liposuction in the kneecap area and makes it bloodless. The approach described is effective and necessitates a relatively brief intraoperative and postoperative period, with inherently less morbidity. We obtained satisfactory results using this simple procedure.

Heart rate variability in diabetes patients.

Diabetes mellitus can cause cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy and is associated with increased cardiovascular deaths. We investigated cardiovascular autonomic neuropathy in diabetics and healthy controls by analysis of heart rate variability. Thirty-one diabetics and 30 age- and sex-matched controls were included. In the time domain we measured the mean R - R interval (NN), the standard deviation of the R - R interval index (SDNN), the standard deviation of the 5-min R - R interval mean (SDANN), the root mean square of successive R - R interval differences (RMSSD) and the percentage of beats with a consecutive R - R interval difference > 50 ms (pNN50). In the frequency domain we measured high-frequency power (HF), low-frequency power (LF) and the LF/HF ratio. Diabetes patients had lower values for time-domain and frequency-domain parameters than controls. Most heart rate variability parameters were lower in diabetes patients with chronic complications than in those without chronic complications.

The effect of surface treatment on the shear bond strength of luting cement to a glass-infiltrated alumina ceramic.

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of three different surface treatments on the bond strength of four different luting cements--three bis-GMA-based resin cements and a compomer cement--to In-Ceram. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight In-Ceram samples were used for each experimental group. The samples were randomly assigned three treatment conditions: (1) etching for 90 seconds with 5% hydrofluoric acid gel, (2) sandblasting (110-micron Al2O3), and (3) tribochemical silica coating. All samples were silanated following the surface treatment. The luting cements were bonded to In-Ceram specimens using Teflon tubes. All samples were thermocycled for 5,000 cycles altering between 5 and 55 degrees C with 30-second dwell times. The shear bond strength values were measured in a universal testing machine with a cross-head speed of 1 mm/min. Analysis of variance was used to analyze data. RESULTS: The mean bond strengths varied between 1.2 and 24.7 MPa. CONCLUSION: Shear bond strength of compomer cement following tribochemical silica coating was significantly lower in comparison to resin cements. Luting of In-Ceram with various resins provided varying degrees of bond strengths that were significantly increased by the tribochemical silica-coating system.

Marginal adaptation of ceramic inserts after cementation.

The advantage of using ceramic inserts is to prevent major drawbacks of composite resins such as polymerization shrinkage, wear and microleakage. This in vitro study evaluated the marginal adaptation of two approximal ceramic insert systems after cementation to the cavities opened with ultrasonic tips. Proximal cavities with margins in enamel were prepared in 20 intact molars using ultrasonic tips (SONICSYS approx tips [microtorpedo size #2 and #3]; Siplus Instrument approximal [U-shaped]). Inserts of similar sizes (n=10) from two systems corresponding to the ultrasonic tips were placed in the cavities (SONICSYS Inlay; SDS-Inlay system), one on the mesial side and the other on the distal side of the same molar. Following cementation and thermocycling (5000 cycles, between 5-55 degrees C), cement thickness was measured at the buccal, lingual walls and pulpal floors of the proximal boxes under light microscope (x150). The mean cement thickness values recorded for SONICSYS inserts #2 (25 microm) was not significantly different (p>0.05) from that of SDS inserts of similar size (26 microm). There was a significant difference (p<0.05) in cement thickness values between SONICSYS #3 inserts (34 microm) and SDS inserts of similar size (23 microm). Comparison of mean values between the ceramic insert systems examined revealed that marginal adaptation was better at the buccal and lingual proximal walls than those at the pulpal floor in the SDS system, however, there was no difference for SONICSYS at both sizes. Ceramic inserts placed in cavities prepared with ultrasonic tips provide clinically acceptable marginal quality.
