Allencotyla pricei sp. n. (Microcotyloidea: Heteraxinidae) from the gills of the pile surfperch, Damalichthys vacca (Girard), in southern California.

Allencotyla pricei sp. n. (Monogenea: Heteraxinidae) from the gills of pile surfperch, Damalichthys vacca (Girard), from Redondo Beach, California is described. This species is distinguished primarily by the prebifurcal position of the genital atrium and vagina, and by possessing an elongate esophagus. The systematic arrangement of microcotyloid forms characterized by an asymmetric haptor is discussed.

[Possibilities of error in studies of neck torsion nystagmus (author's transl)].

The demonstration of neck torsion nystagmus confirms the diagnosis of cervical spine syndrome. To demonstrate this finding, it is necessary to observe the following points: Precise performance of the examination technique; ENG with absolute isolation of the patient; examination with an easily movable rotating chair; prevention of turning of the patient's head in the direction of the chair's movement. Spontaneous nystagmus, movement of the eyelids, optokinetic nystagmus, and electrical artefacts all interfere with detection of neck torsion nystagmus, and are sources of error in its study.

Long-term management of hypertension.

The ambulatory management of hypertension is relatively simple. A key factor in the success of any program is motivation of both the physician and the patient. Workup should be limited to a few simple tests as outlined; need rarely, if ever, involve hospitalization; and can be completed in one or two office or clinic visits. Treatment of hypertion over a long-term period involves the use of specific drug therapy, although some slight modification of lifestyle or diet is occasionally helpful. There are numerous drugs available, and in over 80 to 85 percent of cases, an effective combination can be found. Drug therapy must be continuous; it is rare, in our experience, that medication can be completely discontinued. Data available from the Veterans Administration study, as well as my own, clearly indicate that effective lowering of blood pressure over a long period of time is cost-effective and delays or prevents numerous complications that are frequently noted in untreated patients.

[The application of the digital computer in vestibulometry (author's transl)].

All the interesting parameters of nystagmus-reactions during routine vestibular examination are calculated by a digital computer. The new parameters are plotted in a numerical and graphical way. This histogram figure their temporal distribution comparing reactions of both sides and give information about quantitative and qualitative criterions of the ENG. By correlation of parameters with each other and with further clinical findings their diagnostical value is investigated.
