In 50 children admitted to the Gailingen neurological rehabilitation clinic for children and young people following craniocerebral trauma to undergo several months of rehabilitative treatment, the process of regression of the neuropsychological disorders incurred has been systematically monitored. At the onset of in-patient rehabilitation the children under study demonstrated reduced performance levels, the disorders taking the form of a marked disintegration of the various functional dimensions. In the course of the rehabilitative treatment, hierarchical integration of the various functions concerned increased steadily, resulting on the whole in more economical and adequate cognitive strategies. The rehabilitation process as such is conceived as a process of re-structuring, and not primarily as a learning process in the classical sense. The regression of the initial symptoms over the three-months observation period had been verifiable in all test procedures applied. Yet, some 25 to 30 percent of the children under study presented considerable learning impairments on their discharge from in-patient treatment, so that special education measures are indicated for these children.
Clinical studies by Dr R. Pradinaud (Cayenne) has given prominence to the symptoms of "papillonite": its primary and secondary cutaneous lesions, their localisation and evolution as well as its accompanying symptoms such as respiratory pathology. Epidemiologic survey shows a parallelism between the occurrence of papillonite and the presence of the moth Hylesia urticans. The urticant apparatus of this moth was studied with the scanning electron microscope. "Arrow" (fléchettes) were found and they more or less resemble the urticant apparatus of Thaumetopoea pityocampa Schiff caterpillar. The mechanism of action has been studied in the animal and in humans. Extracts prepared from the "arrows" have been rested in vivo guinea-pigs (bleu Evans, Liacopoulos et al.). The findings seem to incriminate an histamino-liberation.

The case of a 72-year-old man with cutaneous cholesterol emboli in association with disseminated intravascular coagulation (D.I.C.) is described. Favouring the crystal cholesterol emboli hypothesis are the livedo reticularis and purpura in the lower extremities, palpable pulses, arterioles containing cholesterol clefts. Favouring the hypothesis of D.I.C. are the purpuric lesions on the ears and nose, acral cyanosis and haemorrhagic bullae on the hands, intravascular fibrinous thrombi, hemostatic abnormalities and the efficacy of heparin. Two pathogenic hypotheses are discussed: 1) "spontaneous" crystal cholesterol emboli have started a D.I.C. following the release of thromboplastic substances; 2) a D.I.C. with its secondary fibrinolysis has provoked a dissolution of the thrombosis which covered the atheromatous plaques and started cholesterol crystal emboli.

An electronic device for generating contrast patterns on a display unit is described. The apparatus permits the generation of spatially periodic bright and dark stripes of 5 different spatial frequencies, any desired orientation, and drifting velocities from 0 to 16 c/sec. The pattern is shown either over the whole screen or inside a window which can be shifted to any desired position in the surrounding of equal mean luminosity. The graftings can be alternated with diffuse illumination of equal mean luminosity at repetition frequencies between 0.5 and 16 Hz, with independent control of the duration of the contrast pattern.

A deficiency in cellular immunity was demonstrated in a patient suffering from polycythaemia rubra vera in the myelofibrosis stage. Intradermal reactions to classical antigens (candidine, trichophytine, streptokinase, streptodornase, tuberculine) were negative, as was the di-nitrofluorobenzene test. However, the T lymphocyte count was normal. There was no disturbance in humoral immunity. Phagocytosis was normal but leucocyte migration, studied in vitro, was nil. The possibility of an intrinsic abnormality in the polynuclear neutrophil is evoked.
