Cell surface properties of amphibian embryonic cells.

Gastrula and neurula embryos of Cynops pyrrhogaster were dissociated into cell suspensions with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), trypsin, and solution. The cells were cultured in Niu-Twitty's balanced salt solution and their aggregates were examined histologically. The results indicated that the capacity of amphibian embryonic cells for aggregate formation, sorting out, and notochord differentiation was not suppressed by EDTA and alkali treatments. Trypsin treatment, however, virtually suppressed the cell's capacity for aggregate formation. When aggregate formation resulted from trypsin-dissociated cells, the aggregates showed the sorting out and no differentiation of notochord.

Improved method for gas-liquid chromatographic determination of clopidol in chicken tissues.

A sensitive and specific gas-liquid chromatographic (GLC) method has been developed for determining low levels of clopidol in chicken tissues. Clopidol is extracted from the tissues with methanol, and cleaned up on an alumina column and an anion exchange resin column with 0.1% acetic acid--methanol as eluate. Clopidol is methylated with diazomethane, and then determined by GLC. 2,4-Dinitro-1-chlorobenzene is used as an internal standard. The method is applicable to levels as low as 2 ppb in chicken tissues. Recoveries of 2--20 ppb clopidol added to tissues averaged 87% for muscle, 84% for liver, 80% for kidney, and 76% for fat.

[Effectiveness of amoxicillin as a potent antiluetic in the treatment of syphilis (author's transl)].

A daily dose of 1.0 approximately 1.5 g of amoxicillin, a synthetic penicillin, was tried as an antiluetic in 9 cases of syphilis. Oral administration for 4 weeks makes up one course of treatment. One of the patients was given two courses of treatment. Amoxicillin showed effect in 6 patients out of 9 (66.7%). Constipation and diarrhoea were observed in two cases and one case as side effects, and they were controlled easily. Amoxicillin could be a very effective and safe antiluetic.
