Four patients had cavernous hemangiomas of the retina. The lesions, which usually occur in asymptomatic individuals, are unusual hamartomas comprised of saccular aneurysms containing venous blood and located on the surface of the retina or at the optic nervehead. Two patients had photocoagulation to destroy the lesions. In one patient, the lesion was totally destroyed after treatment to it and to the surrounding retina; in the second patient, a portion of the lesion had enlarged greatly when examined 5 years after photocoagulation. The hemangiomas of the other 2 patients have been observed without therapeutic intervention--the course we prefer for the majority of cases.

The formation and presistence of virus specific IgG- and IgM-antibodies produced in rabbits after a single dose of poliomyelitisvirus, coxsackievirus or encephalomyocarditisvirus were tested comparatively by latex-agglutination-inhibition test, hemagglutination-inhibition test and neutralization test. The animals were immunized either intravenously alone or with Freund's complete adjuvant. The IgM-antibodies were only detectable for a short time by the three tests. In the IgG-fraction and in the unfractionated serum the neutralizing antibodies persisted without any loss in titer during the period observed, whereas the latex-agglutination-inhibiting and hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies showed a significant decrease. The hemagglutination-inhibiting antibodies required 23 weeks (Figure 5), the latex-agglutination-inhibiting antibodies 7 weeks (without Freund's complete adjuvant; Figure 1 and 3) or about 16 weeks (with Freund's complete adjuvant; Figure 2, 4 and 5) respectively to decline to 25% of their maximum titer.

Three groups of four pigeons, trained to press a treadle on a free-operant avoidance schedule, were given auditory discrimination training. Alternating 2-min components of avoidance and no shock were paired with either a tone or white noise. The pigeons were subsequently given two types of generalization tests, with and without avoidable shocks scheduled. Two of the groups, trained interdimensionally, produced excitatory and inhibitory generalization gradients along the tone frequency dimension. A predicted post-discrimination gradient was computed from the algebraic summation of these gradients of excitation and inhibition. The predicted gradient was compared with the actual post-discrimination gradient obtained from the third group of pigeons that had been given intradimensional discrimination training on the tone frequency dimension. The predicted postdiscrimination gradient agreed in shape with the empirical postdiscrimination gradient. The results in general support Spence's (1937) gradient interaction theory.
