[Blepharoachalasis (Fuchs) and the Laffer-Ascher syndrome].

The case report of a 20 year old woman illustrates the course of blepharochalasis. This disease was defined as an entity by E. Fuchs in 1896. It is characterized by relapsong edematous tumefaction and increasing relaxation of the eye lids with atrophy of the skin, blepharophimosis and emergence of a pseudoepicanthus. Folding of the oral mucosa in the upper lip, the so-called double lip, euthyroid struma, and, in later stages, orbital fat hernia and prolapse of the lacrimal gland, are further facultative symptoms. Partially, late stages of the disease had been described as Ascher- or Laffer-Ascher-Syndrome. This syndrome is no separate entity.

[Epibulbar superficial spreading melanoma (author's transl)].

A report rarely a case of superficial spreading melanoma of the conjunctiva bulbi in a 40-year-old woman. As this kind of tumor is very found at this site, the unusual localisation rendered the differential diagnosis more difficult and delayed the radical operative therapy. After orbitectomy the patient has been free of local metastatic deposits for two years. She is fully rehabilitated by a good epithetis. The course of diagnosis in our case illustrates the necessity of uniform application of the nomenclature of cutaneous forms of melanomas and naevi in ophthalmology.

[Development and diagnosis of precancerous conditions].

The Evolution and substantial diagnostic criteria of solar and radiogenic keratoses, tar- and oil keratoses, praecancerous lesions induced by arsenic, Bowen's dermatosis, as well as their leucoplacic counterparts in oral and genital mucosa and melanotic praeblastomatous lesions are described, aiming at early diagnosis and consequent early therapy.

[Diagnostic errors in angiomas].

A comparison of clinical statements and histologic findings reveals a lower diagnostic success in angiomas, compared with other benign tumours. Cavernous forms of angiomas are very often not discerned. Capillary angiomas are misdiagnosed as cavernous ones, and teleangiectatic nevi as angiomas. Mistakes and their incidences are pointing not at real difficulties of differentialdiagnosis, but at wrong information of physicians as to the cause of errors. According to this supposition, a great part of textbooks in different medical disciplines offer no correct representation of this object. Our results reveal problems concerning the representation of some aspects of skin diseases outside of Dermatology. The diagnosis of angiomas, with special regard to the therapeutic consequences of the fundamental distinction of angiomas from angiectatic nevi by proliferation of endothelial cells, and of cavernous from capillary angiomas by vascular structure imitating arteries or veins, demands more attention in medical education.

[Action of a new synthetic ACTH drug in psoriatic arthropathy].

In light of observations in 10 patients the author reports the results of a course of therapy with synthetic depot tetracosactide (SYNACTHEN DEPOT) in psoriatic arthritis. In 2 patients no improvement was evident, while in 3 patients temporary improvement was observed but the effect of the drug was inadequate except in combination. In 5 patients, following intramuscular administration of 1 mg without any other medication, improvement in the symptoms and the objective articular findings, where ankylosis was not present, was observed within a few hours and this improvement lasted for more than one week.

Adrenocorticotropic Hormone↗

[Nevus eruption following thyroidin with spontaneous involution].

Report on a young girl with eruptive manifestation of multiple nevuscell nevi following unnecessary treatment with thyroid extract at the age of 13. When this treatment was stopped at age 19, most of the nevi diminuted. Many of them disappeared within a short time, some with halo formation. This case report shows a new side effect of thyroid extract therapy. It is also interesting with regard to pigment cell regulation.

[Hemosiderin pigmentation in Sezáry's syndrome].

A 75 year old woman suffering from Sezary syndrome with edemas and excessive pigmentations is presented. In previous observations, pigmentation was caused by melanosis. In our patient it is caused by hemosiderosis. The origin of the pigmentation by a purpura-pigmentosa-progressiva-like mechanism or by the tumor disease itself is discussed.

[Clinical diagnosis of frequent skin tumors].

Some clinical differential diagnostic aspects of frequent or otherwise important skin tumors and precancerous lesions, grouped after their gross nodular or ulcerated, papillomatous or flat appearances, are compiled.

["Keratoacanthomas" in mastomys natalensis (author's transl)].

54 Tumors of Mastomys natalensis (GRA Giessen), described in the literature as "Keratoacanthomas" were investigated by light and electron microscopy. They are induced by a virus of the Papova group. Their histogenesis and their course are very different from human keratoacanthoma. The results reveal problems related to experimental animal tumour models and the similarities of different malignancies in the nomenclatures of several disciplines.

[A contribution to the classification of seborrheic keratoses (author's transl)].

A clinico-statistical study is reported, basing on a material of 639 excised tumours which were defined histologically as seborrheic keratoses. All statements concerning clinical diagnoses and differential diagnoses, localization, development, age and sex of patients were transferred to punch cards. By means of a suitable EDA program, basic counts and a multidimensional analysis of conditioned frequencies [14] were performed. The results indicate, that the different clinical forms of seborrheic warts, often discriminated in the literature, are variants of the same entity.

[Differential diagnosis of granulomatous skin diseases].

The case histories of two female patients with granulomatosis disciformis and necrobiosis lipoidica are reported. Widespread skin manifestations, also in face and neck, with peculiar anular lesions complicated the differential diagnostic discrimination from sarcoidosis. The aspects of the cases and their progress are discussed in regard to the necessity of permanent checking of diagnostic preconditions during therapy.

[Oil keratoses and scrotal cancer, an avoidable occupational disease of the metal turner].

Report of a 39 year old lathe worker which suffered from oil acne 10 years ago. The disease was registrated as occupational dermatosis. It healed up after the patient changed to a plant with better conditions of work. Pitch warts on the scrotum remained and were failed to notice. Multiple scrotal carcinomas developed many years later. The case report illustrates the necessity of regularly control examinations of every patient which was suffering from oil acne, and the importance of occupational hygienic conditions for the development of oil acne and lathe turner cancer.
