[Features of the fundal glands of the mammalian stomach and their relation to type of diet (morphometric analysis)].

According to a standartized technique, a morphometrical investigation of the stomach tunica mucosa (STM) has been performed in 11 practically healthy persons and 69 animals representing 4 orders and 9 femilies of Mammalia. In Mammalia, together with a principle similarity in the stomach microscopical structure, there is a great variety of main morphometrical parameters of the STM. The whole complex of these parameters is species-specific. It is determined by the systemic position of the given species and reflects the filogenetically-dependent nutritional specialization. The main mechanism and the filogenetically-dependent characteristic of adaptation to protein nutrition is an increase in the number of the main, but not the parietal glandulocytes. The dependence revealed gives a new interpretation to the problem concerning the relation between the structure and function of the STM in animals with different nutrition type; this dependence makes it possible to consider the problem of ulcerogenesis and its biological prerequisites in the man from new positions.

A comparative study of functional activity and cytochemical characteristics of human and rabbit microphages.

Substantial differences were found in the cytochemical indices of human and rabbit microphages. Regular changes in the enzymic activity and the levels of some biopolymers were observed in the microphages in the process of phagocytosis. The extent and (in some cases) tendency of these changes in human and rabbit microphages are not the same. Cytochemical indices provide significant information on the functional activity of the microphage system within one species. At the interspecies level, such information proves to be inadequate for the characteristic of the phagocytic ability of microphages unless humoral non-specific means of protection are taken into account.

[Histochemical characteristics of the secretory cells of gastric glands compared].

The work is dedicated to complex histological studies of the secreting cells in the gastric fundal glands, in their comparative aspect. In the representatives of Amphibia, Reptilians and birds, histochemical differentiation of oxyntopeptic cells was demonstrated to be independent on the peculiarities of the animal nutrition. In mammals, histochemical characteristic of the carbohydrate component in the glandular secreting cells depends on the type of nutrition.

[Comparative histochemical characteristics of the secretion of superficial gastric epitheliocytes].

Comparative histological investigation of the gastric pavement epitheliocytes in a number of species (amphibia, reptile, birds, mammals, man including) has demonstrated that in amphibia, protective function of the stomach is connected with the presence of a certain neutral carbohydrate component in its secrete. In reptiles, the barrier function is performed by the neutral carbohydrate component and sialosaccharides, in birds, besides the carbohydrates mentioned, sulphosaccharides, as well. Histochemical properties of the mammal stomach as a barrier are determined by phylogenetically dependent peculiarities of food specialization.
