[Leukocyte chromatin anisotropy in patients with leptospirosis].

Chromatin anisotropy is measured and its correlation with the cytochemical activity of leukocytes estimated in 19 patients with icterohemorrhagic leptospirosis. Leukocyte and neutrophil nuclei chromatin anisotropy increases during the acute period of leptospirosis, indicating an increase of cuchromatization and transcription activity. Neutrophil nuclei euchromatization is observed in patients with all forms of leptospirosis irrespective of the disease severity. Lymphocyte nuclei euchromatization is observed only in the patients with a favorable course but not in those with the severe course of the disease. Correlations between neutrophil and lymphocyte nuclei euchromatization and cytochemical activity of lymphocytes and monocytes are detected. The optic anisotropic effect is proposed to be used as an extra diagnostic criterion of leptospirosis severity.

Adult

[Clinical and immunologic characteristics of various forms of acute peritonitis].

The condition of the cellular link of the immune system was studied in 30 patients with various forms of acute peritonitis. It was found that the reaction of the immune system in peritonitis is characterized by a phase property and is manifested by processes of redistribution and activation of the immunocompetent cells and normalization of reactivity. The ratio of these phases is determined by the severity of inflammation and intoxication. It is shown that inhibition of the immune system is most marked in diffuse peritonitis, which is due to the higher absorption capacity of the peritoneum in this stage of the pathological process. It was established that the response of the immune system to the operative trauma depends on the spread of peritonitis. The number of T-helpers, T-suppressors, and activated lymphocytes and the activity of the neutrophil alkaline phosphatase are most important in the prognosis of postoperative complications. These parameters may also be used in assessment of the efficacy of immunomodulation with levamisole.

Acute Disease

[Spontaneous and stimulated nitroblue tetrazolium reduction tests in tuberculosis of the lungs].

Cytochemical analysis of spontaneous and stimulated Nitro BT test values in 85 patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and in 24 ones with pneumonia has shown a significant increase of spontaneous Nitro BT test activity with the maximal values at the peak of the disease and an essential reduction of these values during remission. Stimulation with BCG vaccine results in a still more significant elevation of these parameters, depending on the depth of the involvement. Spontaneous and stimulated Nitro BT tests in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis and pneumonia appears to be a promising differential diagnostic test and a means for monitoring the therapy efficacy and for detection of secondary defects of phagocytosis system.

Diagnosis, Differential

[The diagnostic information value of determining the cytochemical properties of the neutrophils from the blood and synovial fluid of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthrosis deformans].

Alkaline phosphatase (AP), acid phosphatase and myeloperoxidase (MP) activity and the level of cation protein (CP) in blood and synovial fluid (SF) neutrophils were studied and compared in 54 patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and in 22 patients suffering from primary osteoarthrosis deformans (OAD) combined with reactive synovitis. As compared to the patients with OAD, the patients with RA manifested a significant rise of AP, acid phosphatase and MP activity together with a decrease of the level of CP in blood neutrophils. Meanwhile in SF neutrophils from the patients with RA, all the parameters appeared higher than in OAD and were lower that in blood neutrophils in both the groups. As compared to the routine biochemical and cytological tests, the diagnostic information content of the cytochemical parameters of blood neutrophils (AP, acid phosphatase) and SF neutrophils (AP, acid phosphatase, MP) from the patients with RA (against the patients suffering from OAD) was noticeably higher.

Acid Phosphatase

[Modifications of cytochemical methods of detecting alkaline and acid phosphatase activities of leukocytes].

Wide use of the detection of the leukocytic alkaline and acid phosphatase (AIP and AP) activities by the azo coupling method has necessitated the development of rational modifications of the routine methods. When staining just few smears, it is recommended that the neutrophilic AIP activity be detected by applying the incubation medium onto the filter paper covering the blood smear; such a modification, used for the staining of 1-6 blood smears, reduces the reagent consumption by 5-6 times and is time-saving. The modification of the method for the detection of the leukocytic AP activity involves the use of the diazole blue O stain manufactured in this country; the acetate-veronal buffer (containing sodium diethylbarbital) is replaced by citrate buffer, pH 6.4. The leukocytic AIP and AP activities, determined in the blood smears stained according to the suggested and routine methods, coincide (p greater than 0.05).

Acid Phosphatase

[Catecholamine-containing sympathetic spinal neurons innervating the feline heart].

The present study determined that a population "nonclassical" sympathetic neurons in cats spinal cord contains catecholamines. They are localized in the central, dorsomedial, and lateral regions of the ventral horn of T1-T5 segments of the spinal cord. Electrophysiological study indicated that axonal conduction velocity is 7.3 +/- 0.5 m/s (ranging from 3.6 to 17.2 m/s). Possible functional roles of catecholamine-containing neurons of spinal cord include involvement in sympathetic control of cardiac cycle duration.

Adrenergic beta-Antagonists

Indicators of spontaneous and stimulated nitroblue tetrazole test of polymorphous-nuclear leucocytes in acute dysentery patients.

140 healthy individuals and 93 sick with acute dysentery were subjected to an examination by spontaneous and by bacterial preparations stimulated reaction with nitroblue tetrazole (NBT test). Indicators in healthy persons were normal in the spontaneous, and increased in the NBT test, stimulated by bacterial preparations. Indicators of the spontaneous NBT test in patients with acute dysentery were raised with a maximum in the period of early convalescence. Stimulation by a live shigella culture--the dysentery vaccine--revealed by means of Sonne diagnostic high, and when endotoxin from Serratia marcescens and dysenterin was used as an inductor, mild indicators of NBT test activity. When a polyvalent agglutinating dysentery serum was used as a stimulator, the activity increased considerably, and a simultaneous use of serum and vaccine had an inhibiting effect on the indicators of the stimulated NBT test. The obtained results testify the sufficient high reserve possibilities of leucocytes towards complete phagocytosis and the efficiency of the NBT test, stimulated by bacterial preparations for the study of functional and metabolic activity of leucocytes in the process of acute bacterial dysentery.

Bacterial Vaccines

[Localization of neurons, making projections via the postganglionic nerves of the stellate ganglion].

Distribution of neurons, forming cardiac nerves of the cat stellate ganglion, has been investigated. The inferior cardiac nerve conducts inotropic influences to the heart. It is formed by the neurons localized in the caudal part of the ganglion. The caudal anastomosis conducts chronotropic influences to the heart. It is formed by the neurons localized in the inferior part of the ganglion and the ventral horn of the spinal nucleus and nucleus intercalatus. Axons of the preganglionic neurons pass through the ganglion and are not interrupted.

Animals

[Pre- and postganglionic pathways conducting central sympathetic chrono- and inotropic effects to the heart of the cat].

In anesthetized cats, the preganglionic input to the stellate ganglion involved Th3 and Th4 white rami. The chronotropic influences to the heart travelled through caudal anastomose whereas inotropic those--through inferior cardiac nerve. Neurons of these nerves are distributed over the ganglion stellate in different sites. The data obtained suggest that the pathways relating central sympathetic influences, are specialized.

Animals

[Features of the fundal glands of the mammalian stomach and their relation to type of diet (morphometric analysis)].

According to a standartized technique, a morphometrical investigation of the stomach tunica mucosa (STM) has been performed in 11 practically healthy persons and 69 animals representing 4 orders and 9 femilies of Mammalia. In Mammalia, together with a principle similarity in the stomach microscopical structure, there is a great variety of main morphometrical parameters of the STM. The whole complex of these parameters is species-specific. It is determined by the systemic position of the given species and reflects the filogenetically-dependent nutritional specialization. The main mechanism and the filogenetically-dependent characteristic of adaptation to protein nutrition is an increase in the number of the main, but not the parietal glandulocytes. The dependence revealed gives a new interpretation to the problem concerning the relation between the structure and function of the STM in animals with different nutrition type; this dependence makes it possible to consider the problem of ulcerogenesis and its biological prerequisites in the man from new positions.
