Some aspects of erythropoietic cell proliferation in erythroleukaemia.

Cytophotometric-autoradiographic investigations on erythropoiesis in erythroleukaemia indicate (1) the decreased labelling index of erythroblasts is explained by an increased percentage of these cells in G-i; (2) 'megaloblastoid' basophilic erythroblasts show a more pronounced decrease of their fraction in DNA synthesis than morphological normal cells; (3) 'megaloblastoid' early polychromatic normoblasts represent a non-proliferating cell population, and (4) the detected disturbance of cell proliferation - even though temporary - can be reversed.

Adolescent↗

[Heparin therapy in postoperative consumption coagulopathy in childhood].

On the basis of clinical symptoms and the results of coagulation tests, some changes in the blood coagulation similar to a consumption coagulopathy were found in eight children in the postoperative phase. In addition to the postoperative routine basic therapy a "low-dosage heparin therapy" was started. 3-5 IU of heparin/kg body weight/hour were administered in the form of a continuous intravenous infusion. The results are discussed.

Age Factors↗

[Early recognition of relapse hazards following thyroidectomy using TSH serum level].

The determination of the serum level of TSH, the essential factor in goitrogenesis, was the best indicator in order to recognize imminent recurrence of goitre in strumectomized patients. The functional reserve of the hypothalamic-pituitary system proved to be important: Elevation of basic TSH level and increase of TSH after stimulation with TRH was significantly higher in patients with recurrent goitre. We, therefore, recommend this test for the postoperative surveillance of patients after strumectomy.

[Heparin therapy in liver cirrhosis].

In 80 patients suffering from liver cirrhosis and coagulation disorders a rapid and significant restitution of the disturbed coagulation system can be expected by a therapy with low doses of Heparin.
