Mental retardation, hypogonadism, obesity, and abnormal blood sugar regulation were common findings in two siblings. In addition, the 17-year-old female patient showed short stature, muscular hypotonia in infancy, and small hands with tapering fingers suggesting Prader-Willi syndrome, and the 12-year-old male patient showed retinitis pigmentosa, normal height, and normal muscular tonicity suggesting Laurence-Moon-Biedl syndrome, though polydactyly was absent. Possible consideration was discussed.
A case diagnosed to have the lesion of pachydermatocele type of Recklinghausen's disease in a 28-year-old female was studied mainly by means of fluorescence method (Falck and Hillarp). Histopathological examination revealed that the lesion was composed of Ota's nevus-like changes in the epidermis to the middermis and of proliferation of neurofibromatous tissues coexisting with melanin-producing cells in the lower dermis to the subcutaneous adipose tissue. Melanin-producing cells in the neurofibromatous lesion were shown by fluorescence method to have characteristics of nevus cells rather than of melanocytes. Innervation of monoaminergic and cholinergic nerves was not found to the arteries in neurofibromas. These findings are thought to suggest that the abnormalities of not only Schwannian cells and melanocytes of neural crest origin but also of nevus cells and autonomous nerves of neural crest origin are related with the pathogenesis of pachydermatocele type of Recklinghausen's disease.

Histochemical localization of the estrogen-induced sulfated glycoproteins was made in the estrogen-treated rabbit uterus. Biochemical studies by a group of Endo et al, affirmed these particular glycoproteins were PAS-positive and metachromatic as stained with TB. No sign of digestion, however, has been detected in a series of tests with alpha-amylase, testicular hyaluronidase, streptomyces hyaluronidase, chondroitinase AC and chondroitinase ABC, and heparinase. The apical portions of the epithelial and glandular cells, obviously expanded by the estrogen treatment, display strong beta-metachromasia with TB (pH 4.0), saliva-resistant PAS-positive reactions, and also alcianophilia with AB (pH 2.5). These reactions are not reduced after the treatment with the enzymes above-mentioned. Meanwhile, in the stromal matrix, the same enzymes give an influence to diminish the reactions to various extent. Our results suggest that the estrogen-induced sulfated glycoprotein is definitely localized in the apical portions of the epithelial and glandular cells. The identity is emphasized between the substance that is elucidated in the histochemical sections and the sulfated glycoproteins that have been specified solely by means of biochemical assays.

Recently, in Prinzmetal's variant angina, many cases with normal coronary arteries have been reported. The anginal attacks frequently relapse after aortocoronary bypass grafting. It is frequently possible to induce an anginal attack by parasympathomimetic agents such as methacholine and pilocarpine. In this study, methacholine (0.13 mg per kilogram) was injected subcutaneously in three cases of this disease to induce an angina attack, and coronary arteriograms and left ventriculograms were recorded. In all cases a coronary arterial spasm corresponding to the site of the ST-segment elevation in the electrocardiogram was observed. Complete occlusion due to the spasm was observed even in the normal coronary artery. Asynergy was seen in the left ventricular wall corresponding to the site of the ST-segment elevation in the electrocardiogram.
This case report concerns a 12-year-old boy who had a 9-year history of mandibular lesions of unknown origin. The mandible showed changes resembling chronic osteomyelitis. The tibia and temporal bone also exhibited radiolucencies. Many subcutaneous abscesses were present. The boy died at the age of 14 years as a result of rupture of the aorta. In his family, there were seven members who had bone lesions and eleven who suffered from skin abscesses.
