A total of 146 East African Zebu, 41 Zebu-Hereford crosses and 24 Ayrshire-Norwegian Red Cattle crosses have been investigated with cattle red cell reagents characterizing blood factors in eleven systems. With a battery of 36 selected reagents the average number of blood factors in Zebu was 20.1 which differs significantly from the average of 12.5 in the Ayrshire crosses. Factor frequencies for the A, C and S systems and gene frequencies for the F, L, M, Z, R' and T' systems are presented. The B system factors in four Zebu bulls could be grouped into eight different phenogroups by utilizing the blood types of dam-offspring pairs.
Starch gel electrophoresis of 55 donkey serum samples revealed three prealbumin (Pr) phenotypes temporarily designated Pr M, Pr MT and Pr T. The distribution was in agreement with a genetic theory of two codominant alleles of frequencies, PrM = 0.87 and PrT - 0.13. Variation was also observed for proteins migrating with the same rate as the Xh zones in the horse.
During the routine parentage control of Norwegian Trotter horses with 10 000 parent offspring combinations two irregular transmissions of Pr alleles were found. The allele products were provisionally named D1 and D2. They appeared in two stallions which were typed as D1I and D2N respectively. The first stallion transmitted PrD1 to seven out of 10 offspring and the second stallion PrD2 to two of four offspring. Photographs of seven new Pr phenotypes are presented.

The number of veterinarians in relation to livestock units, human population, milk and meat production and gross national product for 93 countries is presented. The structure of veterinary manpower is discussed and information on veterinary involvement with companion animals and public health is given. For 23 countries representing all the continents, the number of livestock units, human population and gross national product per veterinary school are presented.
Cattle, red cell antigens as determined by a selected battery of 37 reagents characterizing genes at 10 major loci in 101 Zebu, 63 Ndama and 78 Muturu from Nigeria, have been compared with corresponding red cell antigens of a total of 257 Bos taurus cattle in Norway, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Hungary and USA. The Zebu cattle, represented by the three subtypes Gudali, Red Bororo and Shuwa Arab, showed the highest number of red cell factors. Ndama and Muturu cattle had a significantly lower number of blood factors than the Zebu cattle. The lowest number of blood factors were found in European Bos taurus breeds.
Close to the Equator at an altitude of 1750 m above sea level a total of 27 cows of various breeds have been studied with regard to the fluctuation of their anti-J naturally occurring antibodies. Over 16 consecutive months the average total score of anti-J varied from a minimum of 20 in October to a maximum of 37 at the end of December. Practically all the sera had the lowest level of anti-J in October. This is about two months after the lowest yearly maximum temperature. It is concluded that gradual changes in temperature can cause variation in anti-J titer, and that the magnitude of the seasonal temperature changes influences the fluctuation of the natural anti-J.
