The cervical polyp: a new diagnostic and therapeutic approach with CO2 hysteroscopy.

CO2 hysteroscopy for diagnosis of cervical polyps was performed in 36 patients. The polyps could be located under direct vision and their attachments were found to be deeper than what is seen in regular inspection. A relatively high number of endometrial polyps were found. It is advised that the polyps be surgically removed by cutting the stem at its attachment followed by a curettage.

Epinephrine absorption from retraction cord: a study in dogs.

This report re-opens the question of epinephrine absorption from gingival retraction cord during fixed prosthodontic impression procedures. The conflicting evidence exposed by this and other studies is probably related to the experimental models utilized. Some suggestions for further investigation are given.

[Iso and autoantibodies to spermatozoa in sterile marriages].

Our clinical catamnestic studies on cases of sterility with a proven sensitization against spermatozoa revealed a statistically significant decrease of pregnancies only in patients with positive spermantibody tests over a period longer than 3 years. A direct spermimunological etiology of sterility can not yet be derived. In the investigated 759 cases a sensitization against spermatozoa was detected in 93 cases. In 11 patients the spermantibodies proved to be positive longer than 3 years. Washed spermatozoa were used as antigen in the applied test methods. It may very well be possible, that the results point in a different direction once we are applying a particular fertility diminishing spermatozoa antigen.

Lactate dehydrogenase--X--separation of human spermatozoa isoenzymes by extraction with detergents.

Proteins with known enzymatic properties are attractive molecules as possible agents for immunological contraception. Therefore a new technique for the selective isolation of LDH-X from human spermatozoa is described. Applying the detergents hyamine 2389 and triton X-100 LDH-X is extracted from the sperm surface membrane without the other LDH-isoenzymes. Ultrasonification of spermatozoa yields all LDH-isoenzymes together. After cell disruption the separation of LDH-X and the isoenzymes is performed by discelectrophoresis. With lactate as substrate tetrazolium staining identifies all LDH-enzymes. The technique represents an attractive method for the selective isolation of LDH-X and opens further purification steps.

[Ovulation induction by cyclofenil (author's transl)].

The ovulation-inducing action of cyclofenil was investigated in 135 sexually mature women aged 20--35 years. The patients were only included in the trial if no ovulation in 2 consecutive cycles with the following criteria: basal temperature, cervix score, ascorbic acid retention, basophil count, serum hormone levels, e. g. LH and progesterone and the estrogens in the 24-hour urine could be determined. Ovulation was only considered to have occurred when all the parameters named indicated it. The lack of ovulation was accompanied by amenorrhea in 21 of the 135 patients. The ovulation rate in the 241 cycles observed was 101, corresponding to 42%. In the 114 patients with anovulatory cycles, the ovulation rate in the 184 cycles observed was 95, corresponding to 50%. In the 21 amenorrheic patients, ovulation occurred 6 times in the 57 cycles observed. Nausea or vomiting occurred as side effects in only 2 cases.

[Postpartum contraception: effect of lynestrenol during the lactation period (author's transl)].

167 women were treated with 0.5 mg lynestrenol/day for a period of 8-32 weeks immediately postpartum. The lactation periods of 67 of the women were observed during the stay in hospital (maximum 7 days) in comparison with a control group (n = 20) of untreated women in the puerperium. There was no quantitative difference in milk production between the lynestrenol-treated women and the control group. In order to exclude a possible thromboembolic effect the lynestrenol the thrombocyte aggregation was determined in all women at 4-weekly intervals as a measure of a thrombotic tendency. During the entire period of the investigation the mean PAT rating remained between I and II. Among the clinical parameters a raised amenorrhea rate of 21% and a larger proportion (39%) of breakthrough bleedings were notable. The responded easily to treatment.

[Immunofluorescent-histologic localization of a placenta-antigen with antibodies from pregnancy blood (author's transl)].

Placenta-specific antibodies were isolated by the incubation of washed placental tissue with pregancy serum and then desorption with citric acid pH3. The antigen responsible for the formation of the antibody could be localized via the immunofluorescence technique together with application of the placenta antibody in the syncytiotrophoblast layer. The antibodies are not complement-fixing and belong to the IgG class.
